The OBDSTAR TCM-001A is an Adapter Cable that converts a 25-pin TCM connector of the Temic DQ200 transmission control unit into a 15-pin DB15 connector for use with OBDSTAR diagnostic devices and programmers. The cable is specifically designed for direct access to the transmission control unit outside the OBD2 protocol, which is necessary for certain diagnostic and programming tasks on the DQ200 (0AM/0CW) gearbox from manufacturer TEMIC. This gearbox is used in a wide range of vehicles within the Volkswagen Group platform.

The TCM-001A enables a direct cable connection between the TCM connector on the transmission and the DB15 input of the OBDSTAR device. Through this connection, the device can communicate directly with the transmission control unit without involving the vehicle’s OBD2 port. This allows for reading TCM data, reprogramming software, or writing calibration data on units that are not or only partially accessible via the standard diagnostic route. The cable routes the signals from the 25-pin TCM plug to the correct pin layout of the DB15 interface, so the OBDSTAR system correctly identifies and accesses the unit.

Applications and Functions

The TCM-001A supports the following tasks on the Temic DQ200 transmission control unit in combination with OBDSTAR equipment:

  • Reading TCM software: Reading the current software version and calibration data directly from the transmission control unit via the 25-pin connector, without using the vehicle’s OBD2 port.
  • Reprogramming TCM: Writing new or corrected software data to the DQ200 control unit via the direct DB15 connection with the OBDSTAR system.
  • Processing calibration data: Reading and writing transmission-specific calibration values necessary after replacement or overhaul of the DQ200 unit.
  • TCM identification: Retrieving identification data from the transmission control unit, such as hardware number and software version, for diagnosis or parts verification.
