The OBDSTAR T006 features a 15-pin DB15 connector on the device side and splits into a 12-pin and 22-pin GSM connector on the vehicle side. These two connectors connect directly to the wiring of the gear selector module in the centre console of Land Rover and Jaguar vehicles.

The selector module in these vehicles has two separate plugs. With the split cable structure, both are operated simultaneously, allowing the OBDSTAR diagnostic platform to read and control all relevant signals from the selector. The connection bypasses the vehicle network, enabling targeted module testing without CAN-bus intervention. The cable is a test connection for this module only: it provides no OBD2 diagnostics and cannot be used for general vehicle reading. The selector housing must be removed to access the connectors. The models listed below are confirmed with production years; available test functions are determined by your diagnostic platform.

KEY BENEFITS

Both connectors at once — the 12-pin and 22-pin GSM connectors connect directly to the selector module without additional adapters.
Lift and shift testing in one connection — both the lift function and shift behaviour of the module are tested via the same cable.
Independent of the CAN-bus — the direct connection enables targeted module testing without vehicle network interference.
Two brands with production years — specific year ranges are confirmed for eleven Jaguar and Land Rover models.

LIMITATIONS

OBDSTAR platform only — the cable is not compatible with diagnostic equipment from other manufacturers.
No additional vehicle coverage — available test procedures for the selector module depend on your diagnostic platform's software.
No OBD2 diagnostics — the cable is not suitable for general vehicle reading via the standard diagnostic port.
Removal required — connectors are only accessible after removing the selector housing from the centre console.

Applications and functionality

When used with equipment from the OBDSTAR test platform series, this cable supports the following operations on the gear selector module.

Control units you can access

  • Gear selector module: Connected directly via the 12-pin and 22-pin GSM connectors in the centre console.
  • No other vehicle systems: The connection operates outside the vehicle network, so only the selector module is addressed.

What you can do

  • Perform lift test: Electrically control the lift function of the selector and read the module response.
  • Perform shift test: Check the shift signals for correct response when changing driving modes.
  • Connect module directly: Establish communication with the test platform outside the standard vehicle diagnostic port.
  • Assess module before replacement: Determine whether the fault lies with the selector module before proceeding with replacement.
  • Note: Verify in advance that the specific model year and variant actually have the 12-pin and 22-pin GSM connection.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The determining factor is the 12-pin and 22-pin GSM connection on the gear selector module, not the model. The vehicles listed below are confirmed compatible. For production runs that are still ongoing, a later variant may use a different module; therefore check the connectors yourself.

💡
Useful to know: The gear shift module is located in the centre console; the 12-pin and 22-pin GSM connectors are accessible after removal of the shift lever housing, and the exact module location varies by model year. Check the model, model year and connector configuration in the service manual before ordering.
