The OBDSTAR M079 is an adapter cable that converts an MTU 10-pin diagnostic connector to a 16-pin OBD2 port (J1962). The cable is designed for use with MTU marine engines and enables connection of OBDSTAR diagnostic and programming equipment to engines that do not have a standard OBD2 port. The connector on the engine side is a round 10-pin MTU plug, while the other end has a standard 16-pin OBD2 connector.

The adapter cable electrically converts the pin configuration of the MTU 10-pin connector to the corresponding pins of the OBD2 interface, so the communication protocols used by the MTU engine are correctly transmitted to the connected diagnostic device. This allows the diagnostic technician to communicate with the engine control unit (ECU) of the MTU engine via the OBDSTAR reader or programmer. The cable functions solely as a passive pin-to-pin connection and contains no active electronics.
