The OBDSTAR M078 is an adapter cable for the 9-pin round OBD diagnostic connector found on marine diesel engines. It connects that connector to the 16-pin OBD2 (J1962)-port on your OBDSTAR diagnostic device, and attaches directly to the engine's diagnostic connector at the motor end.

Various marine diesel engine manufacturers use the same round 9-pin connector instead of a standard OBD2 port. The cable provides signal transmission between the engine system and diagnostic tool, allowing communication protocols such as CAN and K-line to pass through unchanged. It unlocks the engine management system of the diesel motor. Which fault codes, live data and identification information you can subsequently retrieve depends on the support available in OBDSTAR software for the specific engine type and model year.
