The OBDSTAR M064 is the adapter cable for the 2-pin and 4-pin diagnostic connectors on Mercury marine engines. On the vessel side, both connectors are loose on the cable; the other end terminates in a standard 16-pin OBD2 (J1962)-connector for your OBDSTAR device.

Mercury does not use a single diagnostic connector on its engine units, but rather two small connectors depending on the configuration. With the split cable design, you select on board the connection present on the engine without carrying a second cable. This makes the diagnostic protocols of the outboard or inboard engine accessible to a device with an OBD2 port. The cable establishes the connection to the engine systems; it does not determine what you can perform. That depends on the OBDSTAR device used and the supported software module for Mercury.

KEY BENEFITS

Two port types on one cable — Both the 2-pin and 4-pin Mercury connectors are fitted on the vessel side.
On-board selection — You determine on site which connection is present on the engine unit, without changing cables.
Compact design — The configuration suits the limited space around marine engines.
Standard OBD2 interface — The engine becomes accessible via the standard 16-pin port on your device.

IMPORTANT NOTES

No model list with production years — Only specified is that Mercury engines with a 2- or 4-pin connector are supported, without engine types or production years.
Mercury marine engines only — Boat engines from other manufacturers are not supported.
OBDSTAR equipment only — The cable is not compatible with diagnostic tools from other manufacturers.
Does not extend vehicle coverage — Available functions depend on your device and the supported software module for Mercury.

Applications and functionality

Through this connection you access the engine control unit of the Mercury marine engine.

Control units you can reach

  • Engine control unit: The engine control unit of the outboard or inboard motor behind the 2- or 4-pin connector.
  • Other systems: Whether more than engine control is accessible depends on the engine unit and your device.

What you can do

  • Read fault codes: Retrieve stored and active DTCs from the engine control unit for fault diagnosis.
  • Clear fault codes: Remove stored fault codes from the engine system after repair or inspection.
  • Read live data: View real-time engine parameters such as engine speed, temperature and fuel pressure.
  • Access manufacturer protocol: Communicate with the Mercury-specific diagnostic interface via the 2-pin or 4-pin connector on the engine unit.
  • Please note: The available function package varies depending on the engine unit and OBDSTAR device.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The connector type on the engine unit is the determining factor, not the engine model. Only Mercury marine engines with a 2-pin or 4-pin diagnostic connector are supported; a list of engine types and model years is not documented.

Mercury Marine:

  • Outboard engines: Models with 2-pin or 4-pin Mercury OBD diagnostic connector
  • Inboard engines and sterndrive engines (MerCruiser): Models with 2-pin or 4-pin Mercury OBD diagnostic connector
💡
Good to know: The diagnostic port on Mercury boat engines is typically located on or near the engine housing; consult the engine documentation to determine which connector type is present. Before ordering, verify that your engine has a 2-pin or 4-pin connector and that your device supports the Mercury module.
