The OBDSTAR N027 connects a 3-pin OBD connector on the vehicle side to a 16-pin OBD2 connector (J1962) on the device side. The adapter fits the manufacturer's proprietary three-pin diagnostic port on Kymco and Kawasaki motorcycles, typically located beneath the seat or behind a cover panel near the handlebars.

Both manufacturers use the same three-pin diagnostic port across a range of models instead of a full OBD2 connection. The pin configuration on the vehicle side is matched to the electrical layout of that port, with the relevant signal lines — including the K-line — routed to the corresponding OBD2 pins. The connection is established without any modification to the vehicle's wiring. The adapter provides access to the port; it does not unlock functions. For the specified Kawasaki and Kymco models, model years are listed below, but whether a particular operation is possible depends on the coverage in your own OBDSTAR device for that model and model year.

KEY BENEFITS

Two brands with one adapter — both Kymco and Kawasaki models with the three-pin port are supported by the same adapter.
Direct, stable connection — the compact design requires no loose cabling, keeping the connection secure during diagnostics.
Aligned with the K-line — the pin configuration follows the signal line these models use for diagnostic communication.
Specified model year ranges — concrete build year ranges are documented for the listed Kawasaki and Kymco models, making pre-checks straightforward.

IMPORTANT NOTES

OBDSTAR only — the adapter works with OBDSTAR diagnostic devices and programmers, not with diagnostic hardware from other manufacturers.
No coverage expansion — the adapter does not add models or functions to your device; its software remains the determining factor.
Three-pin connector only — motorcycles from these brands with a different connector configuration fall outside the scope of application.
Build year limits are strict — models such as the ER-6n/ER-6f (2012–2016) and the Z800 (2013–2016) have defined end dates; a newer example of the same name may have a different connection.

Applications and functionality

When used with an OBDSTAR diagnostic device that supports motorcycles, the adapter enables the following operations.

Control units you can access

  • Engine management system: The engine control unit is accessed via the three-pin connector for fault codes and live data.
  • Vehicle and system information: Identification data such as the control unit type and ECU software version are read out.

What you can do

  • Manage fault codes: Read stored and current fault codes from the engine management system and clear them after repair.
  • Read live data: Monitor sensor values and engine parameters in real time to trace deviations in riding behaviour or engine operation.
  • Identify the system: Query the control unit type and ECU software version.
  • Verify build year: Use the read data to confirm whether the vehicle falls within the specified range.
  • Note: The adapter does not determine what is possible; that is determined by the software of the connected OBDSTAR device for the relevant model and build year.

Compatible vehicles and applications

What matters is the 3-pin diagnostic connector on the motorcycle, not the model name on the fairing. The models listed below are specified with this connector. For models with an open build year range, a later version may differ; always check the connector itself.

Kawasaki:

  • ER-6n / ER-6f: (2012–2016)
  • Ninja 300: (2013–2017)
  • Ninja 400: (2018–present)
  • Ninja 650: (2012–present)
  • Versys 650: (2012–present)
  • Z650: (2017–present)
  • Z800: (2013–2016)
  • Z900: (2017–present)

Kymco:

  • AK 550: (2017–present)
  • Downtown 350i: (2015–present)
  • K-XCT 300i: (2013–present)
  • Xciting 400i: (2013–present)
💡
Good to know: The 3-pin diagnostic port on these models is typically located beneath the seat or behind a cover panel near the steering area; consult your motorcycle handbook for the exact location. Verify the model year and connector type of your motorcycle against the list above before ordering.
