The OBDSTAR N027 is a conversion adapter that converts a 3-pin OBD connection to a 16-pin OBD2 (J1962) connection. The adapter is designed for use on Kymco and Kawasaki motorcycles equipped with a brand-specific 3-pin diagnostic port. Through this adapter, an OBDSTAR reader or programmer can be connected to vehicles where a direct OBD2 connection is not possible.

The Adapter allows an OBDSTAR diagnostic tool to communicate with the engine management system via the vehicle’s own 3-pin port. The pin assignment on the vehicle side is specifically matched to the electrical layout of Kymco and Kawasaki diagnostic connectors, transmitting relevant signal lines — such as the K-line — to the corresponding pins of the OBD2 connector on the device side. This enables the diagnostic tool to establish communication correctly without modifying the wiring or vehicle.

ADVANTAGES

Enables direct connection between an OBDSTAR diagnostic tool and the 3-pin OBD port of Kymco and Kawasaki motorcycles without vehicle modification.
The compact adapter design requires no additional housing or loose wiring, keeping the connection stable during diagnostics.
The pin assignment is specifically tailored to the K-line signal line of Kymco and Kawasaki, ensuring the correct protocol sequence.

IMPORTANT NOTES

The Adapter is exclusively compatible with OBDSTAR diagnostic devices and programmers and does not work with diagnostic hardware from other manufacturers.
The Adapter is only suitable for Kymco and Kawasaki models with a 3-pin OBD diagnostic port; motorcycles with a different connector configuration are not supported.
The available diagnostic functions depend on the support of the connected OBDSTAR device for the specific vehicle model and year of manufacture.

Applications and functionalities

The N027 adapter enables the following diagnostic functions on compatible Kymco and Kawasaki motorcycles via an OBDSTAR reading device:

  • Error code management (DTC): The reading device can read and clear stored and present fault codes from the engine management system via the 3-pins OBD connection.
  • Live data reading: Sensor values and engine parameters are read in real time, allowing deviations in driving behavior or engine performance to be identified.
  • System identification: The connected OBDSTAR device reads vehicle and system information, such as the control unit type and ECU software version.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The following vehicles are equipped with a 3-pins OBD diagnostic port and are supported via the N027 adapter in combination with a compatible OBDSTAR device:
