The OBDSTAR M027 is an adapter cable that converts the 3-pin diagnostic connection of Kymco and Kawasaki motorcycles to a standard 16-pin OBD2 connection (J1962). The cable is exclusively compatible with OBDSTAR readers or programmers and is intended for use on motorcycles that do not have a direct OBD2 port. The housing of the 3-pin connector is factory-specific and mechanically fits the diagnostic plug as used on selected Kymco and Kawasaki models.

The cable enables the connected OBDSTAR diagnostic equipment to communicate via the vehicle’s own 3-pin port with the motorcycle’s electronic control units. The signal pins in the 3-pin connector are internally connected to the corresponding contacts of the 16-pin OBD2 side, keeping the K-line or CAN communication intact. This allows diagnostic tasks such as reading fault codes and accessing systems to be performed without vehicle modifications.

ADVANTAGES

Allows connection to the factory-specific 3-pin diagnostic port of Kymco and Kawasaki motorcycles without wiring modifications.
The signal pass-through connection between 3-pin and 16-pin ensures that K-line or CAN communication is transmitted without signal loss.
Enables the diagnostic technician to service two different motorcycle manufacturers (Kymco and Kawasaki) with a single adapter cable.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Exclusively suitable for OBDSTAR readers or programmers; use with diagnostic equipment from other brands is not supported.
Only applicable to motorcycles with a 3-pin diagnostic port according to the Kymco/Kawasaki standard; not compatible with other connector types.
Not intended for use on passenger cars, scooters, or other vehicle categories outside the supported motorcycles.

Applications and functionalities

The M027 Adapter Cable supports the following diagnostic functions via the 3-pin diagnostic port of compatible Kymco and Kawasaki motorcycles in combination with OBDSTAR equipment.

  • Read fault codes: The connected OBDSTAR diagnostic scanner reads stored and active fault codes (DTCs) from the motorcycle’s electronic control units via the 3-pin port.
  • Clear fault codes: After diagnosis, fault codes can be cleared from the control unit via the Adapter Cable, after which the system performs its self-diagnosis again.
  • Request live data: While riding or idling, real-time values from sensors and actuators can be requested and displayed on the OBDSTAR diagnostic scanner via the 3-pin connection.
  • System identification: The Adapter Cable allows retrieval of vehicle and system information via the 3-pin communication line, such as the control unit type and software version.
