The OBDSTAR M027 converts the 3-pin diagnostic connector found on Kymco and Kawasaki motorcycles to the standard 16-pin OBD2 (J1962) interface. The 3-pin connector housing is manufactured to factory specifications and fits mechanically onto the diagnostic socket of the relevant models.

Both manufacturers used this 3-pin connector on models without a dedicated OBD2 port. The signal pins are internally wired to the corresponding contacts on the 16-pin side, preserving K-line or CAN communication. No vehicle modifications are required. Through the cable, you gain access to the engine control units behind that port. What you can do with them is determined by the software of your own OBDSTAR diagnostic device.

KEY BENEFITS

Two brands, one cable — Kymco and Kawasaki models with the 3-pin port operate with the same adapter.
Signal integrity maintained — the internal wiring preserves K-line or CAN communication unchanged.
No wiring modifications needed — the cable connects directly to the existing factory connector.
Standard OBD2 at the device end — the 16-pin side plugs directly into your diagnostic tool's input.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Check the model year for Kawasaki — the specified Kawasaki models with this connector were produced until the early 2010s; newer versions may use a different socket.
3-pin configuration only — models with alternative connector types are not compatible with this cable.
OBDSTAR equipment only — use with diagnostic tools from other manufacturers is not supported.
Does not add vehicle coverage — which systems and functions are available is determined by your device's software.

Applications and functionality

Via the 3-pin diagnostic port, you can access the control units of the motorcycle or scooter.

Control units you can reach

  • Electronic control units: The units connected to the 3-pin port, including engine management.
  • Other systems: Which modules are accessible per model varies and depends on your device's coverage.

What you can do

  • Read fault codes: Retrieve stored and active fault codes (DTCs) from the control units.
  • Clear fault codes: Remove the codes from the control unit, after which the system performs its self-diagnosis again.
  • Request live data: Monitor real-time values from sensors and actuators during idle or whilst driving.
  • System identification: Request vehicle and system information, such as the control unit type and software version.
  • Please note: Available functions differ per model and per OBDSTAR device.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The determining factor is the 3-pin diagnostic port, not the model or year of manufacture. The models listed below are equipped with a 3-pin port that is mechanically and electrically compatible with this cable's connector.

Kawasaki:

  • Z750 / Z750R: (2007–2012)
  • Z1000 / Z1000SX: (2007–2013)
  • Ninja ZX-6R: (2007–2012)
  • Ninja ZX-10R: (2008–2013)
  • Versys 650: (2010–2014)
  • ER-6n / ER-6f: (2009–2011)

Kymco:

  • AK 550: (2017–present)
  • Downtown 350i: (2015–present)
  • Xciting 400i: (2013–present)
  • Xciting S 400: (2018–present)
💡
Good to know: The 3-pin diagnostic port on these models is typically located beneath the seat or behind a cover panel at the steering head; consult the workshop manual for the exact location. Verify the connector on the vehicle itself before ordering, particularly for Kawasaki models from overlapping production years.
