The OBDSTAR M011 is the adapter cable for the 8-pin diagnostic port on Kawasaki motorcycles. It converts that manufacturer-specific connector to the 16-pin OBD2 socket (J1962) on your OBDSTAR diagnostic equipment, allowing a motorcycle with this port to connect to a device with a standard OBD2 connector.

Kawasaki retained this 8-pin connector on a large proportion of its models for many years rather than adopting the automotive OBD2 connector. The pin configuration of the cable is matched to the communication lines used by the manufacturer, including the K-line, ensuring that diagnostic signals reach the diagnostic reader unaltered. The cable unlocks access to the engine system; it does nothing more. What you extract from it is determined by your own device's software — the cable adds no additional coverage.

KEY BENEFITS

Single cable for a broad model range — from the 2012 ER-6n through to the Z900 and ZX-10R still in production.
Matched to Kawasaki's K-line — the pin configuration follows the manufacturer's signal lines, with no intermediate electronics.
Ready to use straight away — connectors are fitted at both ends; no tools or motorcycle modifications required.
Verified model list with production years — fifteen models are documented in the technical specifications with this 8-pin connector.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Not suitable for models with a 16-pin OBD2 connector — Kawasaki motorcycles that already have the automotive connector do not require this cable.
Not compatible with other Kawasaki connectors — the 4-pin, 4+4-pin and 6-pin versions require a separate cable from the same range.
Exclusively for OBDSTAR diagnostic equipment — the cable is not compatible with diagnostic systems from other manufacturers.
Does not add vehicle coverage — available functions depend on your device's software and licence.

Applications and functionality

Via the 8-pin connector, you access the engine management system of the motorcycle.

Control modules you can reach

  • Engine system: The control unit from which fault codes and vehicle data are retrieved.
  • Other systems: Whether additional modules are accessible varies by model and depends on your device's coverage.

What you can do

  • Read fault codes: Retrieve diagnostic codes from the engine system to identify a fault.
  • Clear fault codes: Remove stored error codes after diagnosis and repair from the connected device.
  • Request live data: Monitor parameters such as engine speed, temperatures and sensor readings during diagnosis.
  • Read vehicle data: Retrieve identification data available via the diagnostic connector.
  • Note: What is actually available varies by model and by OBDSTAR device.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The 8-pin connector is the determining factor, not the model or year of manufacture. The Kawasaki models listed below are equipped with this connector. Overlapping years do occur: during a model change, the manufacturer may have switched to the 16-pin OBD2 connector, so if in doubt, check the connector on the motorcycle itself first.

💡
Good to know: The 8-pin diagnostic port is typically located beneath the seat or behind a panel near the frame, often fitted with a rubber cap. Before ordering, verify that your motorcycle has the 8-pin connector and not the 16-pin OBD2 port.
