The OBDSTAR M068 is the adapter cable for the 4-pin diagnostic port on Kawasaki jet skis. One end features the manufacturer's proprietary 4-pin connector, whilst the other end connects to the 16-pin OBD2 (J1962) connector of your OBDSTAR diagnostic equipment. On the vehicle side, the cable connects to the diagnostic port of the jet ski, which provides access to the engine control system.

Kawasaki has never fitted the standard automotive OBD2 connector to its jet ski range, instead using a proprietary 4-pin connector. The pin configuration is manufacturer-specific and differs from the international OBD2 standard; consequently, a standard OBD2 cable cannot be used here, and this adapter cable is essential for correct signal transmission. The cable establishes connection only with the jet ski's engine control system. Which fault codes, sensor readings and other functions you can actually access depends on the software of your own OBDSTAR device and the supported protocols of the specific model — the cable itself adds no additional coverage.

KEY BENEFITS

Direct connection to the 4-pin jet ski port — the cable connects without requiring any modification or alteration to the vessel.
Standard OBD2 connector — the 16-pin end plugs directly into the diagnostic port of your OBDSTAR device; no intermediate adapter is needed.
Covers an extensive model range — from the STX-15F in 2004 through to recent Ultra 310 and SX-R variants, Kawasaki maintained the same 4-pin connection.
For a segment without standardised ports — in jet ski diagnostics, standard OBD2 cables cannot be used due to the different connector type.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS

Not for Kawasaki motorcycles — the cable is designed exclusively for jet skis with the 4-pin port; different cables are required for the brand's motorcycle connections.
Year and model are not decisive — the presence of the 4-pin connector is what matters; verify it on the vessel itself before making your choice.
OBDSTAR equipment only — the cable is designed for OBDSTAR devices and programmers and is not compatible with diagnostic systems from other manufacturers.
No additional vehicle coverage — available functions depend on your own device and the protocols supported for each model; the cable provides the connection only.

Applications and functionality

This connection provides access to the jet ski's engine electronics.

Control units you can reach

  • Engine management system: The control unit connected to the 4-pin diagnostic port on the jet ski.
  • Other modules: Whether additional control units are accessible alongside the engine management system varies by model and device.

What you can do

  • Read fault codes: Retrieve diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) from the jet ski's engine management system via the converted 4-pin connection.
  • Clear fault codes: Remove stored codes once diagnosis is complete.
  • Request live data: Monitor sensor readings and system parameters in real time for diagnostic purposes.
  • Signal conversion: The manufacturer-specific 4-pin signal is converted to 16-pin OBD2 format to enable OBDSTAR communication.
  • Important: What is available for each jet ski depends on the model and the OBDSTAR device used.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The 4-pin OBD port is the determining factor, not the model. The Kawasaki jet skis listed below are equipped with this port. Before use, verify that your specific model and year actually has a 4-pin OBD port.

Kawasaki:

  • STX-15F: (2004–2015)
  • Ultra 260X / 260LX: (2009–2010)
  • Ultra 300X / 300LX: (2011–2013)
  • Ultra 310X / 310LX / 310R: (2014–present)
  • SX-R 1500: (2017–present)
💡
Good to know: On Kawasaki jet skis, the 4-pin diagnostic port is typically located under a cover in the front compartment of the hull; consult the model's workshop manual for the exact location. Verify that your jet ski has the 4-pin connector before ordering.
