The OBDSTAR ECU Master is a PC-controlled ECU programmer that lets you read, edit, and write control modules on a bench setup. The device sits between the module and a Windows PC: the PC runs the software while the device handles power supply and communication. Which modules you can access depends not on the hardware itself, but on the configuration unlocked to the serial number.

This version comes with configuration D, which operates independently of the three vehicle configurations. While A, B, and C cover vehicle segments, D focuses on what needs to happen after damage: the airbag module, battery management, and steering angle sensor. These are reset operations, not cloning operations.

For a collision repair shop, this is the component that pays for itself fastest. An airbag module that has only recorded the impact after a crash can be restored to working condition with this configuration instead of being replaced. The other configurations run on the same device and can be activated without additional hardware.

KEY BENEFITS

Designed for collision repair — The operations needed after a crash — airbag, battery management, and steering angle sensor — are bundled together in one configuration.
Clear crash data instead of replacing modules — An airbag module that has only recorded the collision doesn't need to be discarded; that saves you the cost of a new unit per repair job.
Not tied to a vehicle segment — This configuration stands alone from A, B, and C and works alongside any other, or independently.
Affordable second configuration — For a shop that already has configuration A, this is the most cost-effective way to add damage repair work.

IMPORTANT LIMITATIONS

No cloning, reading, or writing — This configuration resets and clears data. Reading, editing, and cloning control modules fall under A, B, and C.
No engine or transmission management — On its own, this configuration doesn't provide access to ECM or TCM; you'll need one of the others for that.
Shipping weight not yet confirmed — We'll confirm the weight before we ship.
The software is available in English and Chinese — there is no Dutch language version.

Applications and functionality

Configuration D provides access to the modules listed below. In all cases, these are reset and erase functions only — not read, write, or clone operations.

  • Airbag module: The control unit that manages seat belt pretensioners and airbags. After a collision, it records the impact in memory, and the warning light remains on as long as that record is stored.
  • Battery management system (BMS): The module that monitors the battery. When replacing the battery or after a fault, the module must be recalibrated to the new conditions.
  • Steering angle sensor (SAS): The sensor that reports steering wheel position to the ESP and driver assistance systems. After steering or suspension work, it must be relearned.
  • Other control units: Additional modules for which reset functions are available within this configuration.

The five operating modes

Which mode you need depends on the module. The ECU Master supports all five.

Mode When to use it
OBD Through the vehicle's diagnostic connector, without removing the module.
BENCH The removed module receives power and communication on the workbench via the BENCH-C V1 cable.
BOOT The module is started in boot mode by making a fixed connection on the circuit board.
JTAG Direct processor access via the debug interface, using the C4-10 adapter.
BDM The second debug interface on the same C4-10 adapter, for processors without JTAG support.

When you use this configuration

Four scenarios where configuration D makes the difference between resetting and replacing.

After a collision

The airbag module has recorded the impact. With this configuration, you erase that record, so the module is usable again and the warning light goes out — instead of replacing the unit.

After battery replacement

The battery management system is still calibrated for the old battery. A reset restores the module, so charging regulation works correctly again.

After steering or suspension work

The steering angle sensor is no longer at zero. Without relearning, the ESP and driver assistance systems will continue to report faults.

With a used module

A unit removed from another vehicle still contains data from that vehicle. A reset makes it usable again.

How it works in practice

  1. Download the ECU Master software from the Download Center on the OBDSTAR website and install it on a PC running Windows 10 or later.
  2. Create an account and register your device so that configuration D is activated on your serial number.
  3. Connect the ECU Master to your PC using the USB-A to USB-B cable and plug the 14V 60W adapter into a power outlet.
  4. Determine whether programming can be done through the diagnostic connector or if the module needs to be removed; if the latter applies, connect it to the BENCH-C V1 cable.
  5. Select the relevant module in the software and search for the unit type; the search bar will highlight matching results.
  6. Read out the data and create a backup copy before making any changes.
  7. Perform the reset and then verify that the warning light has turned off.

Package Contents

  • 1x OBDSTAR ECU Master programmer — The device itself, featuring DC, USB, COMM, and IG connectors.
  • 1x 14V / 60W power adapter — Powers the device and connected modules on the workbench.
  • 1x M001C main cable — Primary connection between the device and the module to be programmed.
  • 1x USB-A to USB-B cable — Connects the device to the PC running the software.
  • 1x BENCH-C V1 cable — Bench harness with labeled wires for connecting a removed module.
  • 1x Set of jumper wires (8 variants) — Bridges different pin configurations on the bench.
  • 1x 3-in-1 jumper extension cable — Extends and combines jumper connections without loose wiring.
  • 1x C4-10 adapter — Provides access to the processor's JTAG and BDM interface.
  • 1x W004 read/write wire — Component-level connection with connector.
  • 1x W005 read/write wire — Alternative version for a different connector type.
  • 1x W006 read/write wire — Standalone wire for a solder connection where no connector fits.

💡 Good to Know: Configuration D operates independently from vehicle configurations, making it highly versatile. For passenger vehicle work, A plus D is the standard setup for a workshop that also handles collision repair. The hardware is identical across all versions, so you can add configurations to the same device. When ordering, have the serial number ready, as the configuration is activated based on it.
