The OBDSTAR ECU Master is a PC-controlled ECU programmer that lets you read, edit, and write engine control units on a bench setup. The device sits between the mounted controller and a Windows PC: the PC runs the software while the device provides power and communication with the unit on the bench. Which vehicles and modules you can access depends not on the hardware itself, but on the configuration unlocked to the serial number.
This version comes with Configuration C, the setup for commercial vehicles, tractors, and heavy equipment. This opens up the heavy-duty segment: engine management for over 120 brands, from DAF, MAN, Scania, Volvo, and Mercedes-Benz to John Deere, Claas, Fendt, Caterpillar, Komatsu, and Kubota. While passenger cars are mainly identified by type numbers, OBDSTAR lists controllers here by their specific model names: MR-A2 through MR-A8, MCM2, EDC7C3, EMS S6 through S8.
What sets this apart from simpler tools is the range of programming methods. With heavy-duty controllers especially, the bench isn't always the answer: Mercedes-Benz also supports boot mode, MAN supports JTAG and BDM, and Scania supports JTAG. The ECU Master handles all five, so if a controller won't respond one way, you have other options.

Application and functionality
Configuration C is designed for work on control units in trucks, buses, agricultural vehicles, and heavy equipment. The following operations are available with it.
- Clone control unit: Transfer the contents of a faulty controller to a replacement unit so the vehicle or machine will accept it.
- Read and write VIN: Read the chassis number and write it to a replacement control unit.
- Reset to factory status: Restore a used control unit to its original unused state.
- Calibrate odometer: Adjust the stored mileage in the control unit to match the actual mileage.
- Correct CheckSum: Recalculate the checksum after a modification so the control unit accepts the adjusted data as valid.
- Read and write MAPS: Read and rewrite the engine control calibration tables.
- Lock and unlock control unit: Remove or restore the security protection on the control unit.
- Enable and disable IMMO: Turn the engine immobilizer on or off within the control unit.
The five programming modes
Which mode you need depends on the control unit and varies by manufacturer. The ECU Master supports all five.

| BDM | The second debug interface on the same C4-10 adapter. For MAN, explicitly mentioned as a third option. |
Brand-specific support
For the brands listed below, the manufacturer identifies the controller types by name, along with the processing mode. This tells you far more than just a brand name alone.
Mercedes-Benz
The PLD controllers MR-A2 through MR-A8 can be cloned via bank or boot. The ACM2 and versions 2.1 and 2.2 work via bank, as do ADM2 and ADM3. For the MCM2 series — including the D2, D3, D4 and D5 variants of the MCM2.1 — both bank and boot are supported, and this includes controller locking and unlocking plus VIN reading and writing.
MAN
The controllers FFR, PTM, EDC7C3 and EDC7C32, cloned via bank, JTAG or BDM. Three different methods to access the same unit, which is helpful when one option isn't available.
Scania
The engine control units EMS S6, EMS S7, EMS S8 and EMS EMD1, plus EGC4, EEC3, COO7, COO8 and OPC5. Cloning is performed via bank or JTAG.
Volvo
The engine control units EMS2.2, EMS2.3 and EMS2.4, cloned via bank.
Transmissions
The GS3.0, GS3.3 and GS3.6 controllers as used in Mercedes-Benz, DAF, Iveco, Hyundai and MAN vehicles, via bank or boot.
Cummins
VIN reading and writing via bank on the controllers CM1880A, CM1881, CM2150C, CM2150E, CM2200A, CM2220A, CM2220B, CM2220C, CM2350A, CM2880 and CM871.

How It Works in Practice
- Download the ECU Master software from the Download Center on the OBDSTAR website and install it on a PC running Windows 10 or later.
- Create an account and register the device so that configuration C is activated on your serial number.
- Connect the ECU Master to the PC using the USB-A to USB-B cable and to the power outlet using the 14V 60W adapter.
- Remove the control unit from the vehicle or machine and connect it to the BENCH-C V1 cable, or establish a connection via the C4-10 adapter when boot, JTAG or BDM is required.
- In the software, select the commercial vehicle segment and filter by brand, or search directly for the controller type; the search bar highlights matching results.
- Read the data and save a backup before making any changes.
- Perform the operation and write the data back to the control unit.

💡 Good to know: The hardware is identical across all versions; only the unlocked configuration differs. If you work on commercial vehicles, cars, and motorcycles alongside each other, you can activate configuration A or B on the same device — so you don't need to buy a second unit. When placing your order, have the serial number ready, as the configuration is unlocked based on it.
