The OBDSTAR ECU Master is a pc-controlled ECU programmerwith which you read, edit and write back control units on a bench setup. The device sits between the mounted controller and a Windows PC: the PC runs the software while the device handles power supply and communication with the unit on the bench. Which vehicles and which modules are within reach is determined not by the hardware itself, but by the configuration unlocked for the serial number.
This version comes with all four configurations at once. With this single device, you get complete programming coverage: passenger cars and electric vehicles, motorcycles, commercial vehicles, tractors and off-road machinery and the security systems that need to be reset after damage repair. No vehicle segment and no reset function remain out of reach.
For a workshop with a mixed range of vehicles, that's the key point: no need for a second device, no second learning curve, and no need to place a follow-up order when something comes in that falls outside your chosen configuration. If purchased separately, the four bundles would cost more than this combined package.
KEY FEATURES
IMPORTANT NOTES
What the four configurations unlock
Each configuration opens a different section of the software. Below you'll find what each configuration includes, along with the control units that OBDSTAR names specifically.
Configuration A — passenger vehicles and electric vehicles
Engine management, transmission, body and chassis modules, and battery management and vehicle control modules for electric vehicles. Engine management includes, among others, Bosch MED and EDC17, Continental SIMOS, the GPEC series and the Delphi series; for transmissions over five hundred types, including DSG units. The body control group covers more than one hundred eighty control unit types.
Configuration B — motorcycles
Motorcycle engine management, covering more than one hundred brands and over three hundred control unit types according to the manufacturer. Specifically named: Harley-Davidson CAN versions with 2-pin and 3-pin connectors, the J1850 and MT21; Honda Keihin series M32R, SH705X, MPC560 and RH850; CFMOTO controllers MSE6.0 through ME17; and Kawasaki Denso 21175 series.
Configuration C — commercial vehicles, agricultural and off-road equipment
The heavy-duty segment: engine management for over one hundred twenty brands, plus transmission and body systems. Specifically named: Mercedes-Benz MR-A2 through MR-A8, ACM2, ADM2, ADM3 and the MCM2 series; MAN FFR, PTM, EDC7C3 and EDC7C32; Scania EMS S6 through S8, EGC4, EEC3, COO7, COO8 and OPC5; Volvo EMS2.2 through 2.4; the GS3.0, GS3.3 and GS3.6 transmission controllers; and eleven Cummins ECU control units.
Configuration D — safety systems
Post-damage reset operations: clearing crash data from the airbag module, resetting the battery management system and programming the steering angle sensor. No cloning capabilities, but includes the functionality that allows a collision repair shop to avoid the expense of replacing an airbag module.
Applications and features
With all four configurations unlocked, the following operations are available.
- Clone an ECU: Transfer the complete contents of a faulty control unit to a replacement unit across all three vehicle segments.
- Correct CheckSum: Recalculate the checksum after making changes so the control unit accepts the modified data as valid.
- Convert and decrypt IMMO data: Read, convert and decrypt immobilizer data as needed; for motorcycles this is done via the ISN.
- Read and write VIN: Read the chassis or frame number and write it to a replacement control unit.
- Calibrate mileage: Adjust the stored mileage in the control unit to match the actual mileage.
- Reset to factory status: Restore a used control unit to like-new condition.
- Read and write MAPS: Read and rewrite the engine control calibration tables for the heavy-duty segment.
- Lock and unlock ECU: Remove or restore security protection on heavy-duty control units.
- Reset safety modules: Clear crash data and reset battery management and steering angle sensor.
The five operating modes
Which mode you need depends on the control unit and varies by manufacturer. The ECU Master supports all five.
| Mode | When to use it |
|---|---|
| OBD | Through the vehicle's diagnostic connector without removing the control unit. |
| BENCH | The removed control unit receives power and communication on the workbench via the BENCH-C V1 cable. The most common mode for cloning and writing. |
| BOOT | The control unit is started in boot mode by making a fixed connection on the circuit board. For Mercedes-Benz, the alternative to bench mode. |
| JTAG | Direct processor access via the debug interface, using the C4-10 adapter. For MAN and Scania, a fully-fledged alternative. |
| BDM | The second debug interface on the same C4-10 adapter, for processors without JTAG support. |
Individual or bundled
All four configurations are also available separately. The overview below shows their individual prices.
| Configuration | Segment | Individual price |
|---|---|---|
| A | Passenger car and electric vehicle | € 1,389.95 |
| B | Motorcycle | € 799.95 |
| C | Commercial vehicle, agricultural and off-road machinery | € 1,879.95 |
| D | Airbag, battery and steering angle sensor | € 659.95 |
| Purchased separately | All four purchased individually | € 4,729.80 |
| A+B+C+D | This bundle | € 3,559.95 |
How it works in practice
- Download the ECU Master software from the Download Center on the OBDSTAR website and install it on a PC running Windows 10 or later.
- Create an account and register the device so all four configurations are activated on your serial number.
- Connect the ECU Master to the PC using the USB-A to USB-B cable and to the power outlet using the 14V, 60W adapter.
- Determine whether the operation can be performed via the diagnostic connector or if the control unit needs to be removed; if the latter, connect it to the BENCH-C V1 cable, or via the C4-10 adapter when boot, JTAG or BDM is required.
- Select the segment in the software — passenger car, motorcycle, commercial or safety systems — and search for the controller by make or model; the search bar highlights matches.
- Read the data and save a backup before making any changes.
- Perform the operation and write the data back to the control unit.

💡 Good to know: The hardware is identical across all versions; what you're purchasing with this package is the complete software activation. If you're unsure whether you need all four modules, first check which segments actually apply to your vehicle — you can always add more later on the same device. Keep the serial number handy when ordering, as configurations are activated based on it.
