The OBDSTAR M080 is the adapter cable for the 9-pin Caterpillar/Perkins OBD diagnostic connector. The cable connects that plug to the 16-pin OBD2 (J1962)-connector on your OBDSTAR device; the 9-pin side connects to the diagnostic plug of the engine management system.
With marine engines fitted with Caterpillar or Perkins-engine management, the pin configuration differs from the OBD2 layout. The cable converts the signal assignment without active electronics: transmission occurs passively through the defined pin connections between both connectors. The cable provides access to the engine management system, nothing more. Whether you can read fault codes, retrieve sensor data and access system information depends on the capabilities of your own OBDSTAR device and the supported protocols for each engine type.
