The OBDSTAR TCM-009 is an Adapter Cable designed to create a direct connection between an OBDSTAR programmer or diagnostic device and the transmission control module (TCM) of vehicles equipped with the Getrag DPS6 six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The cable converts the 58-pin TCM connector of the transmission control module to a 15-pin DB15 connector, which connects directly to the OBDSTAR diagnostic or programming equipment. The cable is specifically intended for out-of-vehicle (bench) programming, where the TCM is read or rewritten outside the vehicle on a workbench.

The Getrag DPS6, commercially known as PowerShift by Ford and EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) by Renault, uses an electronically controlled dry dual clutch where the TCM manages all shifting and clutch commands. The TCM-009 Adapter Cable connects to the 58-pin connector of the TCM housing and routes the relevant signal lines — including power, ground, and communication lines — to the DB15 interface of the OBDSTAR equipment. This allows the equipment to read, reprogram, or calibrate the TCM software without the unit being installed in the vehicle. This makes the cable suitable for situations where the TCM is replaced, cloned, or reconfigured on the workbench.

Applications and Features

The TCM-009 Adapter Cable supports the following functions when used with compatible OBDSTAR equipment on the Getrag DPS6 transmission control module.

  • Reading TCM software: The current software version and calibration data of the transmission control module are read via the bench connection and stored in the OBDSTAR equipment.
  • Reprogramming the TCM: A new or replacement TCM is supplied with the correct software and vehicle-specific parameter data via the DB15 connection, without the vehicle needing to be operational.
  • Cloning the TCM: The full contents of an existing TCM are read and written to a replacement unit, including the vehicle-specific configuration.
  • Calibration of clutch parameters: Transmission parameters that control the clutch actuation of the DPS6 dry dual clutch can be adjusted or reset to factory settings via the bench interface.

Compatible Vehicles and Applications

The following vehicles are equipped with the Getrag DPS6 six-speed dual-clutch transmission and are compatible with the TCM-009 Adapter Cable when used on the workbench. The transmission is known under different trade names per manufacturer: PowerShift (Ford) or EDC (Renault/Dacia).

Good to know: The Getrag DPS6 TCM is physically located on or inside the transmission housing. For bench programming, the TCM must be completely disconnected from the vehicle wiring harness and supplied with an external power source.
