The OBDSTAR TCM-004 connects the 23-pin connector of the Temic DL382 transmission control unit on the vehicle side to the 15-pin DB15 interface of OBDSTAR programmers. The TCM is typically located on or directly adjacent to the transmission housing, where the cable is physically connected to the 23-pin connector.

The DL382 is the seven-speed automatic transmission used by the Volkswagen Group on the MLB Evo platform, among others. The cable enables communication with the control unit independently of the vehicle network, allowing the programmer to read and write directly to the memory chip of the control module. This opens up operations that are not accessible via the OBD2 port due to security layers or communication restrictions in the vehicle network.
