The OBDSTAR TCM-004 is an Adapter Cable that connects a Temic DL382 transmission control unit (TCM) with a 23-pin connector to a 15-pin DB15 interface of OBDSTAR diagnostic programmers. The cable is intended for direct communication with the transmission control unit outside the vehicle network, without using the OBD2 port. The application targets passenger cars from the Volkswagen Group equipped with a Temic DL382 automatic transmission, such as Audi models with 7-speed automatic transmissions on the MLB Evo platform.
The Adapter Cable physically connects to the 23-pin connector of the Temic DL382 TCM, which is mounted directly on the transmission. Via the DB15 connector, the TCM is linked to the OBDSTAR programming unit. This allows the programmer to read and write directly to the memory chip of the control unit, independent of the vehicle CAN network. This enables operations such as reading and rewriting transmission data, including tasks that are inaccessible via the OBD2 port due to security layers or communication restrictions in the vehicle network.

The TCM-004 Adapter Cable supports the following diagnostic functions via direct connection to the Temic DL382 transmission control unit in combination with OBDSTAR programming equipment.
- Reading TCM data: The entire memory content of the Temic DL382 transmission control unit is read via the 23-pin connector, including data not available through the standard diagnostic link.
- Rewriting TCM data: Modified or replacement transmission data is written back to the control unit, useful for replacement or repair of the TCM.
- Transmission identification: The Adapter Cable enables reading specific configuration data and version information of the DL382 transmission for identification and diagnosis purposes.
