The OBDSTAR T002 connects the 48V battery and DCDC module of Audi mild-hybrid vehicles to the 15-pin DB15 interface of the OBDSTAR diagnostic platform. On the vehicle side, multiple connections are provided: crocodile clips for the battery and pre-assembled connectors that fit the DCDC module connection points.

In the 48V electrical system of Audi vehicles, the DCDC module converts 48V voltage to 12V for the rest of the on-board network. This cable set enables the 48V battery activation test procedure and allows the module to be connected and read out. Because the wiring is fixed and connectors are pre-assembled, there is no need to attach loose test leads, which reduces the risk of incorrect connection. The cable is designed for bench diagnostics of these two components and does not provide general vehicle diagnostics. Work is carried out at 48V: applicable safety regulations for high-voltage components apply. Which tests are available depends on your diagnostic platform; the models listed below are confirmed with model year ranges.

ADVANTAGES

Connect without test leads — pre-assembled crocodile clips enable the 48V battery activation test without inserting loose pins.
Two components, one cable set — both the 48V battery and DCDC module are operated via separate connectors using the same set.
Standardised device interface — the DB15 connector provides a stable, fixed connection with the OBDSTAR diagnostic platform.
Confirmed models with model year ranges — specific model year ranges are provided for A6/A7 (C8), A8 (D5) and Q7/Q8.

LIMITATIONS

Works only with OBDSTAR — the cable cannot be used independently and is not compatible with diagnostic equipment from other manufacturers.
No expansion of coverage — the cable provides the connection; which test procedures are available depends on your diagnostic platform.
Audi 48V mild-hybrid only — other manufacturers or voltage levels are not supported, even with the same connector type.
48V requires precautions — due to the voltage in the mild-hybrid system, safety regulations for working on high-voltage components apply in full.

Applications and functionality

With a compatible OBDSTAR diagnostic platform, the cable set supports the following work on the 48V electrical system.

Control units you can access

  • 48V lithium-ion battery: Connected directly to the test platform via crocodile clips.
  • DCDC module: Connected via its own connector to assess the 48V to 12V conversion.

What you can do

  • 48V battery activation test: Check battery status and activation behaviour without installing the battery in the vehicle.
  • DCDC module readout: Evaluate the 48V to 12V conversion via the connected test platform.
  • Bench diagnostics: Test both components on the workbench independently of the vehicle.
  • Prevent incorrect connections: Work with fixed wiring and pre-assembled connectors instead of loose test leads.
  • Important: The cable does not perform tests itself and does not replace safety measures for 48V systems.

Compatible vehicles and applications

What matters is the presence of a 48V mild-hybrid system with its associated battery and DCDC module, not the model name. The Audi models listed below are confirmed based on source data. A version without a mild-hybrid system falls outside the scope of application, even with the same model name.

Audi:

  • A6 / A7 (C8): Vehicles with 48V mild-hybrid system (2018–present)
  • A8 (D5): Vehicles with 48V mild-hybrid system (2017–present)
  • Q7 / Q8: Vehicles with 48V mild-hybrid system (2019–present)
💡
Good to know: In these Audi models, the 48V battery and DCDC module are typically located in the boot or under the rear seat; the vehicle documentation specifies the exact location for each model and production year. Verify the model, production year and presence of the 48V system before ordering.
