This adapter cable connects the 17-pin diagnostic connector of older Mazda passenger cars to a scan tool with a 16-pin OBD2 plug. The connector is located under the bonnet, usually near the left wheel arch or strut tower, in a box marked DIAGNOSIS.
Via this connector you read out the engine management system. Depending on the model, the vehicle communicates via the K-line or via J1850 PWM. The cable physically converts the connector; the scan tool itself must support the Mazda protocols of this generation.
