The Jaltest JDC624A is the adapter cable that connects the 18-pin ECU connector of Tohatsu outboard motors to a standard 16-pin OBD2 interface. The cable connects directly to the engine control unit connector located under the engine cover, rather than to a diagnostic port in the wiring harness. Tohatsu also uses two 6-pin configurations, each designed for a specific power class (10-20 hp and 40-60 hp).

Behind this single connector lie both engine control systems that Jaltest supports for Tohatsu: The ECM (Engine Electronic Control) from the MFS series and the ECM PGM-FI (Programmed Fuel Injection) from the BFT series. The coverage difference between them is this: With the ECM PGM-FI you can also adjust parameters and perform calibrations, but not with the ECM on the MFS models. Since outboard motors have no standardized connector requirement, this proprietary connector remains in use on newer engines as well. The cable falls under Jaltest Marine.

IMPORTANT NOTES

✕Feature set varies by engine series: The MFS models lack parameters and calibration functions, while the BFT series includes them.
✕The maintenance reset is not available on all models — it's supported on the MFS 115 and BFT series, but not on the smallest MFS models.
✕Only for the 18-pin ECU connector; for the 6-pin connector you'll need the JDC632 version (10-20 hp) or the JDC633A (40-60 hp).
✕Requires a Jaltest Link with valid Marine license; the cable itself does not provide coverage.

Applications and features

Using this connection, you can access the engine control unit of your Tohatsu outboard motor with Jaltest software. Available functions vary depending on the engine series.

Control units you can access

  • ECM — Engine Electronic Control: The engine management system of the MFS series, including fault codes, live data, component activation, ECU information and maintenance reset.
  • ECM PGM-FI — Programmed Fuel Injection: The engine management system of the BFT series, plus parameters and calibration options.

What you can do

  • Read fault codes: Access the fault memory of the engine control unit with detailed descriptions of detected issues.
  • View live data: Monitor real-time sensor readings connected to the engine control unit.
  • Activate components: Run active tests on the engine management system.
  • Parameters and calibration: Available on the ECM PGM-FI of the BFT series only, not on MFS models.
  • Reset maintenance: Reset the service interval counter, including on the MFS 115 and BFT series.

The connector type determines compatibility, not the model. This cable works with any Tohatsu outboard motor featuring the 18-pin ECU connector. Jaltest Marine covers the series listed below; check your motor's connector type on site to confirm.

Good to know: This cable connects directly to the 18-pin connector on the engine control unit, which is located under the engine cover. Tohatsu models with a 6-pin diagnostic connector require a different cable. Be sure to check which connector your outboard motor has before placing your order.
