The Jaltest JDC510A is the adapter cable that connects the 12-pin diagnostic connector of MTU engines to a standard 16-pin OBD2 interface. On the engine side, the 12-pin connector plugs into the diagnostic port on or near the engine block; on the interface side, the 16-pin OBD2 of your Jaltest diagnostic cable. The connector on the engine varies by MTU generation.

Behind this single connection lies the electronic engine control system of the MTU engine. Once the connection is established, the diagnostic equipment gains access to the ADEC generation (ECU-7 for Tier 2 and ECU-9 for Tier 3) and to the older MDEC ECU4 C2 and DDEC versions of the Series 4000. The coverage difference lies in maintenance: only DDEC IV includes service intervals; ADEC and MDEC do not. MTU offers Jaltest for both stationary engines and inboard engines, with the same control units in both coverages. The cable falls under Jaltest OHW (Off-Highway machines) and Jaltest Marine.

KEY BENEFITS

Accesses MTU engine controls ADEC ECU-7 (Tier 2) and ADEC ECU-9 (Tier 3), the generation found on modern MTU engines.
Also covers the older MDEC ECU4 C2 and DDEC systems of the Series 4000.
Works on land and at sea: MTU is supported by Jaltest for both stationary and inboard engines.
Covers a wide range: From Series 460 through Series 4000.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Maintenance data available only for DDEC IV: For ADEC and MDEC control units, maintenance intervals are not included in the coverage table.
MTU coverage is limited to reading data: component control, parameter adjustment, and calibration are not supported.
Only for the 12-pin MTU connector; the engine connector varies by MTU generation.
Requires a Jaltest Link with valid OHW or Marine license; the cable itself does not add coverage.

Applications and features

Through this connection, you can access the electronic engine control unit of your MTU engine using Jaltest software.

Control units you can access

  • ADEC ECU-7 (Tier 2), Electronic Diesel Control, Common Rail: The Tier 2 engine ADEC control system, including fault codes, live data, and ECU information.
  • ADEC ECU-9 (Tier 3), Electronic Diesel Control, Common Rail: The successor control unit for Tier 3 engines.
  • MDEC ECU4 C2, Electronic Diesel Control: The generation preceding ADEC.
  • DDEC IV, Engine Management System, Unit Injector System: The unit injector control system; maintenance intervals are included in the coverage for this system.
  • Series 4000 V12 and V16 DDEC (Tier 1): The first electronic control systems for the Series 4000.

What you can do

  • Read and clear fault codes: Access the fault memory of the control unit with detailed fault descriptions, and clear it after repair.
  • View live data: Monitor real-time sensor values from the control unit, with the ability to set alarm thresholds for out-of-range readings.
  • Maintenance: Check engine maintenance intervals and document completed service work in a report. For MTU engines, this is only available with DDEC IV.

Component control, parameter adjustment, and calibration are not supported for MTU engines.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The connector type determines compatibility, not the engine model. MTU engines are installed as standalone powerplants. Jaltest covers the engine series listed below; you'll need to verify which connector your specific engine has on-site.

MTU:

  • Series 460, 500, and 900: The lighter-duty MTU engines
  • Series 1000, 1100, 1300, 1500, and 1600: The mid-range class
  • Series 2000 and 4000: Heavy-duty MTU engines with ADEC and MDEC control systems
  • Series S60: The engine series derived from Detroit Diesel
  • Built into power units, heavy machinery and marine vessels — MTU is also featured in Jaltest's range of inboard engines
💡
Good to know: The diagnostic connector is part of the engine and is located on or next to the engine block. The connector type varies by MTU generation. Always check which connector your engine has before placing your order.
