The Jaltest MDC14 is the ETM multipin cable for brake pad wear sensors. At one end is a 16-pin OBD2 connector in a black housing marked MDC14, for the Jaltest ETM. At the other end, three leads run to three separate test pins in blue, black and red.

With these pins you connect directly to the sensor connection, instead of to a fixed mating connector; that is what multipin means here. This is how you test the wear sensor on commercial vehicles with the ETM, separately from the control unit. The cable only works with the ETM on a Jaltest Link, with an ETM licence and a current CV or Modular software licence.

ADVANTAGES

POINTS TO NOTE

✕Count the pins before ordering: this cable has three, the MDC13 has two and is for the speed sensor. EBS modulators cannot be reached with this cable; for those, the MDC02 to MDC09 are required.
✕The MDC10 and MDC11 access the same wear sensor with a fixed round 3-pole connector. So first check how the sensor is connected on your vehicle.
✕Requires an ETM licence in addition to a current CV or Modular software licence; once that expires, the ETM no longer works until it is renewed.
✕The cable does not work independently: without the Jaltest ETM on a Jaltest Link you measure nothing, and the ETM does not run on Jaltest handhelds.

Applications and functionality

Via this cable the Jaltest ETM communicates directly with the wear sensor, without the control unit being involved. With the separate test pins you can also reach a sensor connection without a matching mating connector.

How to use it

  1. Start the software: Open Jaltest with the ETM on the PC.
  2. Free the sensor: Disconnect the plug of the wear sensor.
  3. Place the pins: Position the three pins on the contacts.
  4. Connect the ETM: Plug the OBD2 end into the ETM.
  5. Testing: Select the sensor test in the ETM.

Compatible devices and applications

The component and the number of pins are decisive. The MDC14 has three test pins and is intended for brake pad wear sensors. It works with the Jaltest ETM on a Jaltest Link V8.1 or V9. Below it is shown which ETM cable belongs to which component.

Cables for the Jaltest ETM:

  • MDC02 to MDC09: EBS modulators from Knorr-Bremse and Wabco.
  • MDC12 and MDC13: Speed sensors.
  • MDC10, MDC11 and MDC14: Brake pad wear sensors.
  • MDC100.9: Adapter cable for an earlier ETM version.

What you need

  • Jaltest ETM: The test module for components. For the Jaltest Link V9 this is the ETM interface 70001007; for an earlier ETM version, use the MDC100.9 adapter cable.
  • ETM licence: The ETM does not start without this licence. The annual renewal has reference 29701.
  • Current Jaltest software licence: A CV licence or a Modular licence. Other modules cannot be combined with the ETM.
  • PC or laptop: The ETM does not work on Jaltest handheld devices.
💡
Good to know: Count the pins: the MDC14 has three, blue, black and red, for the brake pad wear sensor. The MDC13 has two, green and yellow, for the speed sensor. If the sensor has a fixed round 3-pole connector, the MDC10 and MDC11 fit. Also check the licence: the hardware and software of the ETM run in line with the expiry date of your Jaltest software licence. If that licence runs for more than a year, you only pay for the remaining period. Once the Jaltest licence expires, the ETM no longer works until it is renewed. Therefore, first check until when your licence runs before you order.
