The Jaltest JDC537A is the adapter cable connecting the 10-pin diagnostic connector of MTU engines to the 16-pin OBD2 port of your Jaltest diagnostic cable. On the engine side, there is a black round Amphenol connector with a knurled ring and AMPHENOL marking on the sleeve; the contact face features ten gold-plated pins. Between both ends sits a black rectangular housing with metal screw fastening, from which the cable runs to the engine connector. The cable measures 28 to 30 cm; for the chrome-plated version with twelve pins, the sister cable JDC510A is the correct choice.

The cable unlocks the diagnostic line to MTU engine control units: ADEC ECU-7 and ECU-9 from Series 2000 and 4000, ADEC ECU-8 from Series 1600, the MDEC ECU4 C2, the DDEC IV from Series 4000 and the control interface ADM 2 with the MR-pump density system from Series 460 and 500. The difference in coverage lies mainly in servicing: maintenance intervals are listed only for the DDEC IV. Because the same engines are found both stationary and onboard, Jaltest offers MTU in two coverage options. The cable is specified for Link version V8.1 and V9 and falls under Jaltest OHW (Off-Highway machines) and Jaltest Marine.

KEY BENEFITS

Accesses MTU engine control units ADEC (ECU-7, ECU-8 and ECU-9) and MDEC ECU4 C2, the control units of the Series 1600, 2000 and 4000.
Also the DDEC IV of the Series 4000 is covered, including service intervals.
These same engines are found stationary and marine-installed alike; Jaltest covers MTU in both applications, so you can use a single cable in both software packages.
With the Series 460 and 500, you can access the control interface ADM 2 and the MR-pump density system, complete with diagnostic alerts.

IMPORTANT NOTES

The Series 900, 1000, 1100, 1300 and 1500 use Mercedes-based control (MCM, CPC and ACM); these have their own connector and not this 10-pin round connector.
MTU coverage is largely read-only in scope: component actuation, parameter adjustment and calibration are not included in the coverage table for these control units.
Service intervals are not universally available: Available for DDEC IV, but not for ADEC ECU-7, ECU-8, ECU-9 and MDEC ECU4 C2.
The ten pins are housed in a black Amphenol connector; if your engine has the chrome-plated version with twelve pins, the JDC510A.

Applications and functionality

Using this connection, you can access the control units of MTU engines with Jaltest software. The Amphenol connector connects to the diagnostic port on the engine block, and the 16-pin OBD2 connects to your Jaltest diagnostic cable. What you can do next depends on the control unit in the engine and the Jaltest module under which the engine falls.

Control units you can access

  • ADEC ECU-7 (Tier 2) and ADEC ECU-9 (Tier 3): The common-rail engine control of the Series 2000 and 4000.
  • ADEC ECU-8 (Tier 3): The engine control of the Series 1600.
  • MDEC ECU4 C2: The older electronic diesel control, covering the Series 2000 and 4000 and for inboard applications.
  • DDEC IV: The engine management system with pump-injector units in the Series 4000, the only one with service intervals.
  • ADM 2 and MR: For the Series 460 and 500, Jaltest supports the control interface ADM 2 and the pump unit system MR; for both of these, the diagnostic warning also appears in the table.

What you can do

  • Read fault codes: Read the fault memory of the control unit, including a description of the detected fault.
  • View live data: The current sensor values on the control unit, with the option to set alarm thresholds. Serial number, software version and manufacturer reference are also read from the same control unit.
  • Check service information: The service intervals and work to be performed — in the coverage table only ticked for DDEC IV.
  • Monitor in real time: For inboard engines, real-time data is also available for the MDEC ECU4 C2.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The engine series is what matters, not the machine. MTU engines are supplied as independent drive built-in, so the engine manufacturer tells you nothing about the connection. The following series are covered by Jaltest; whether the 10-pin or the 12-pin version is fitted, you will determine from the engine itself.

MTU:

  • Series 2000 and 4000: The series with ADEC ECU-7, ADEC ECU-9, MDEC ECU4 C2 and (for 4000) DDEC IV
  • Series 1600: With the ADEC ECU-8
  • Series 460 and 500: With the control interface ADM 2 and the pump frequency system MR
  • Inboard versions: The 8V, 10V, 12V, 16V and 20V variants of the Series 2000 and 4000 and the Series 1163 and 1600 are also covered by Jaltest for inboard engines
  • Applications: Power units, stationary installations and marine propulsion in which these engines are installed
💡
Good to know: The diagnostic connection belongs to the engine and is located on or beside the engine block, not in a fixed location on the machine. This cable fits the black round connector with ten pins; the JDC510A fits the chromed metal version with twelve pins. Check which connection is on your engine before ordering.
