The Autool PT640 GDI is a digital fuel pressure tester for petrol direct injection. It measures the high pressure built up by the pump, with a range of 0 to 360 bar and an accuracy of 1% of full scale. This shows whether the high-pressure pump reaches the specified rail pressure, independently of what the engine management reports.
Above 355 bar it gives an audible alarm, so you do not unknowingly approach the limit of the measuring range. The 2.8-inch display shows the current pressure, the highest and lowest values, the difference and the measuring time. It is supplied with adapter hoses, metal adapters and a T-piece in a case.
ADVANTAGES
POINTS TO NOTE
Applications and functions
The PT640 GDI is intended for workshops investigating starting problems, fault codes relating to rail pressure or loss of power on petrol engines with direct injection.
Measuring functions
- Current pressure: The rail pressure at this moment.
- Pmax and Pmin: Hold the highest and lowest value.
- ΔP and measuring time: Difference and duration of the measurement.
- Alarm: Audible signal above 355 bar.
Where to use it
- Starting problems: Whether the high-pressure pump builds up pressure on starting.
- Rail pressure fault code: What the pump actually delivers.
- After replacing the pump or pressure control valve: Check before the vehicle is returned to use.
How to use it
- Switch off the pump: Remove the fuse, relay or plug of the fuel pump.
- Release pressure: Run the engine until it stalls, then crank it a further 2 to 3 times.
- Disconnect the battery: Disconnect the negative terminal and place a cloth under the connection.
- Connect: Fit the tester in the high-pressure line using the appropriate adapter or the T-piece.
- Measure: Reconnect everything, start the engine and read the pressure.
Special functions and features
What makes the PT640 GDI practical:
- Audible alarm: Above 355 bar.
- T-piece: Measure while the system remains in operation.
- Three pressure units: bar, kg/cm² or psi.
- Automatic shut-off: After 5 minutes with no operation and no pressure.

- Autool
- What the tester measures: the pressure in a system or the quality of a fluid. This tells you if it suits the job.Type of tester
- Fuel pressure tester
Measurement
- The lowest and highest pressure the tester can measure. The range should match the system being tested.Measuring range
- 0 to 360 bar (5221.3 psi / 367 kg/cm²)
- How much the reading can deviate at most, as a share of full scale. The smaller, the more reliable the result.Accuracy
- 1 %
- The smallest step the display shows. A finer resolution reveals small pressure differences.Resolution
- 0.10 bar
- The pressure the sensor can withstand without damage. A higher limit gives more margin during a pressure spike.Overload limit
- 400 bar
- How many types of adapters are included. More adapters mean the tester fits more engines and systems.Number of adapters
- 3 adapters
Functions
- The tester records the highest and lowest pressure and the difference between them. Useful for spotting fluctuations.Highest and lowest reading
