The Autool AS507 is a handheld power steering fluid tester that allows technicians to check the quality and condition of power steering oil in vehicles. The device measures the oil grade via a flexible probe and displays the result as a percentage on an illuminated LCD screen, along with the current oil temperature. The tester is suitable for use during periodic maintenance and diagnosing power steering issues.

When in use, the technician dips the probe into the power steering fluid, after which the sensor analyzes the dielectric properties of the oil. The screen shows a graphical bar indication from 0% to 100% with an OK indication for good oil quality. The temperature can be switched between °C and °F via the dedicated button, and the backlighting can be turned on separately for reading in dark engine compartments.

ADVANTAGES

Direct reading via graphical bar and percentage without external software or vehicle connection.
Flexible probe reaches fluid reservoirs in hard-to-access positions in the engine compartment.
Switchable temperature display between °C and °F for use in different workshop standards.
Switchable backlighting allows reading in low workshop lighting.

KEY POINTS

Specifically designed for power steering fluid; not suitable for analyzing brake fluid or engine oil.
The probe must be wiped clean after each measurement to prevent cross-contamination between vehicles.

Applications and functionalities

The Autool AS507 supports the following measurement and operation functions:

  • Oil quality measurement: The probe detects the condition of the power steering fluid and displays the result as a percentage on the screen.
  • Temperature measurement: During the measurement, the display simultaneously shows the current fluid temperature, allowing the technician to assess whether the system is cold or at operating temperature.
  • Switch unit: Use the C/F button to toggle the display between Celsius and Fahrenheit without restarting the measurement.
  • Backlight: A separate button activates the screen lighting for reading under the hood or in poorly lit workshops.
  • Start measurement: Press the start button to activate a new measurement cycle after placing the probe in the reservoir.

💡
Good to know: For a reliable reference value, it is recommended to first perform a measurement on fresh, unused power steering oil of the same type. This creates a clear comparison basis for measurements on used oil in vehicles.
