The Autool AS506 is a brake fluid boiling point tester. It measures the actual boiling point of brake fluid by actually bringing a sample to the boil. You draw 40 to 50 ml using the syringe, place the test probe in the measuring cup, and after sixteen seconds the display shows the temperature at which the fluid begins to boil.

This is the value that matters when braking: if the brakes boil, the pedal goes soft. The device displays the measured boiling point alongside the reference values for the selected type, both the dry boiling point of fresh fluid and the wet boiling point of fluid in use, so you can see how far this vehicle is from those targets. There is a setting for DOT type and a setting with fourteen brands. The tester runs on the vehicle's 12V battery and requires no batteries.

KEY BENEFITS

Actually boils a 40 to 50 ml sample; the result appears after sixteen seconds.
Displays the measured boiling point alongside the dry and wet reference boiling points of the selected type.
Brand setting with fourteen makes, with the reference value for that specific product line.
No consumable test strips: The test probe is reusable, so there are no costs per measurement.

POINTS TO NOTE

Operates on a 12V vehicle battery of at least 10V. No batteries required.
The sample goes in the measuring cup, not the reservoir. You measure outside the braking system.
A second measurement on the same sample will differ. The fluid has already boiled and changed.
At the brake calliper the boiling point is lower than what you measure at the reservoir mouth; the manual accounts for this difference.

Application and functionality

The figure that matters with brake fluid is the boiling point. Fresh fluid achieves the dry boiling point of its DOT class; once moisture enters it drops towards the wet boiling point and below. The AS506 does not measure how much moisture is in it but what that has led to, by actually boiling the sample. A moisture measurement, as the AS502 does, points the same way but measures a different quantity.

What you see on the display

  • Measured boiling point: The temperature at which this sample begins to boil.
  • Dry and wet reference boiling points: The values for the selected DOT type or brand, displayed alongside.
  • Live fluid temperature: During measurement, with a progress bar.
  • Battery voltage: The voltage of the battery the device is connected to.

How to perform the measurement

  1. Take a sample: Draw brake fluid into the syringe and transfer 40 to 50 ml into the measuring cup.
  2. Insert the test probe in the cup: Fully submerge the sampling hole and allow air bubbles to escape from the test head.
  3. Clamp the cable to the battery: Red to positive, black to negative; the device will then switch on automatically.
  4. Select the mode: Use the T button to toggle between NORMAL for DOT type and BRAND for make, confirm with the S button.
  5. Start and read: Hold the S button for sixteen seconds; the boiling point then appears alongside the reference values.

Where to use it

  • For periodic inspections: A measured boiling point provides solid evidence to present to the customer.
  • For heavy braking: Trailers, mountain passes and track days, where the fluid gets genuinely hot.
  • As a cross-check against a moisture reading: A low boiling point is the result that ultimately matters.
  • For older brake fluid of unknown origin: Testing saves replacing fluid that is still perfectly serviceable.

Package contents

  • 1x Autool AS506 brake fluid boiling point tester
  • 1x Power cable with battery clamps
  • 1x 50 ml measuring cup
  • 1x Syringe for taking a sample
  • 1x User manual
💡
Good to know: Check the device occasionally with plain water: The manual indicates that the measurement should then read 100 °C, within a margin of 3%. If it deviates, you know the problem lies with the device and not the fluid.
