The Autool AS505 is a transmission fluid tester that allows technicians to assess the condition of automatic transmission fluid (ATF) without draining the oil. The device measures the quality of the transmission fluid and the oil temperature via a flexible probe inserted through the transmission dipstick opening. The LCD screen with backlight displays the measurements directly in percentage and temperature, with the option to choose between display in °C or °F.

During a measurement, the sensor in the probe head records the dielectric properties of the oil and compares them with the reference value of fresh ATF. The device then shows the degree of oil aging, allowing the technician to determine if a transmission oil change is necessary. Operation is via four push buttons: on/off, start measurement, screen backlight, and unit switch. The flexible probe hose enables measurement on hard-to-reach transmissions.

Good to know: Perform the measurement with the transmission at operating temperature and the engine idling. This allows the oil to circulate and the sensor to provide a value that represents the actual condition of the ATF during use.
