The Autool AS503 is a handheld engine oil tester that allows mechanics and car owners to quickly assess the quality of engine oil without draining it. The device measures via a flexible measuring probe inserted into the oil dipstick opening and shows the result directly on the LCD screen with backlighting. The tester operates based on dielectric measurement and displays the oil condition on a scale from 0 to 100%, making it clear whether an oil change is necessary.
During use, the user switches on the device and inserts the probe through the dipstick opening into contact with the engine oil. The AS503 measures both the oil temperature and the dielectric constant and compares these values with the reference of fresh oil. A built-in calibration function allows the device to be first adjusted to a sample of fresh oil, after which a comparison with the used oil provides an accurate condition indication. The display can be switched between °C and °F for temperature measurement.

- Measure oil quality: Determines the degree of aging and contamination of the engine oil via the dielectric constant and gives a value between 0 and 100%.
- Read oil temperature: Shows the current temperature of the oil during measurement, useful to check beforehand if the oil is within the measurement range.
- Calibrate on fresh oil: Sets the zero point on a sample of new oil, so the comparison with used oil provides an accurate condition indication.
- Switch unit: Switches the temperature display between °C and °F via a separate key on the keyboard.
- Toggle backlight on/off: Activates the display lighting for reading in dark engine compartments.
