The Autel PowerScan PS100 circuit tester is designed for diagnosing electrical systems in 12V and 24V vehicles. The device is powered directly via the vehicle battery using battery clamps or a 12V socket, after which measurements are made through the detachable test probe. The instrument is used for testing wiring harnesses, checking the continuity of relays and fuses, and diagnosing power and ground issues without the need for external power sources.
During use, the tester directly measures DC voltage, AC voltage, and resistance. By operating the integrated toggle switch, the diagnostic technician can directly apply a positive or negative voltage (power or ground) from the device to a component, such as a cooling fan or window mechanism, to verify its operation. Additionally, the meter features an oscilloscope-like display for analyzing AC signals and helps specifically in locating short circuits. An internal circuit breaker automatically protects the tester and vehicle electronics from overload during these activation tests.
Applications and Features
The Autel PowerScan PS100 supports various diagnostic measurement methods for troubleshooting in and around vehicle electronics.
- Voltage and polarity measurement: Determines directly whether a circuit is positive, negative, or open without needing to reverse the clamps. The TFT display shows the current voltage value.
- Component activation: Actively supplies power or ground to components via the built-in switch. This allows the operation of relays, fuel pumps, or lighting to be verified directly from the test probe.
- AC voltage and signal analysis: Reads AC voltage signals including frequency (Hz) and duty cycle (%). The display shows a graphical representation (min/max voltage) for assessing signal patterns from sensors, for example.
- Resistance and continuity measurement: Measures resistance in a range from 0 to 200 KΩ and verifies the continuity of switches, relays, and diodes to rule out cable breaks.
- Short circuit and ground checking: Detects poor ground connections by directly testing contacts. The tester also helps trace and locate short circuits to ground without unnecessarily blowing fuses.
Special Features and Capabilities
This circuit tester is equipped with hardware features that enhance ease of use and safety during measurements.
- Built-in circuit breaker: The mechanical protection trips in case of overload or a direct short circuit when powering components. It can be reset via a button on the device, preventing damage to the circuit board.
- Integrated work light: Equipped with LED lighting at the front, keeping the test probe clearly visible when working in dark spaces such as under the dashboard or deep in the engine compartment.
- Acoustic feedback: Produces different audio tones for positive and negative polarity. This allows the technician to assess signals without having to look directly at the display. The sound can be turned off in the menu.
- Large physical reach: The tester is powered via the battery, but thanks to the included extension cable of about 6 meters, circuits at the rear of the vehicle or trailer lighting can be reached without problems.
