The Allosun EM415Pro is a short circuit and wire break detector designed to locate electrical faults in vehicle systems. This diagnostic tool operates within 6V to 42V direct current (DC) circuits, making it suitable for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and heavy equipment. The system consists of a separate transmitter and receiver. The receiver is equipped with a flexible test probe, allowing technicians to trace wires and check circuits without damaging the wire insulation or unnecessarily dismantling components.

When locating a fault, the technician connects the transmitter in series to the suspected circuit. The transmitter then generates a high-frequency signal that runs through the wiring. The user moves the flexible antenna of the receiver along the wiring harness to follow the audio signal. When the probe passes the location of a wire break, the sound signal stops, marking the exact break point. For detecting a short to ground, voltage loss is detected based on the signal pattern. The transmitter also features a continuity mode (CONT) with visual LED feedback, allowing basic circuit closure to be verified beforehand.

ADVANTAGES

Prevents physical damage to components as tracing is done via signal detection through insulation.
Widely usable in the workshop thanks to the broad measurement range of 6V to 42V direct current (DC).
Simplifies measurements in tight or hard-to-reach places by using the flexible test probe.
Minimizes interference from nearby cables through the adjustable signal sensitivity on the receiver.

KEY POINTS

Only for DC circuits; unsuitable for components on alternating current (AC) or high-voltage systems.
Accuracy strongly depends on the power supply; weak batteries cause loss of signal strength.

Applications and functionalities

The Allosun EM415Pro is designed for specific diagnostic tasks on a vehicle's wiring harness.

  • Wiring tracing: Wireless tracking of specific copper wires within a bundled wiring harness from the power source or fuse box to the connected component.
  • Cable break location: Identifying the physical location of a broken circuit by following the audio signal to the point where transmission abruptly stops.
  • Short circuit detection: Locating unwanted connections to vehicle ground by detecting voltage loss along the path of a live wire.
  • Continuity testing: Performing a basic check on circuit closure via the 'CONT' mode. An LED indicator confirms wire integrity for further measurements.

Special features and capabilities

The set includes hardware features that support inspecting hard-to-reach vehicle components.

  • Flexible gooseneck probe: A bendable antenna extension on the receiver that adapts to physical space. This enables measurements behind dashboards, panels, and in crowded engine compartments.
  • Variable volume control: A rotary knob allowing the technician to adjust the intensity of the acoustic signal. This isolates the audio signal from the target wiring and filters crosstalk from parallel cables.
  • Integrated test switch: A switch on the transmitter that easily toggles between transmitting the audio signal ('TONE') and physical continuity measurement ('CONT').

💡
Good to know: Always disconnect the circuit to be tested from the main power supply when searching for short circuits or wire breaks. If the circuit remains powered or is unintentionally connected to electronic control units (ECUs), this can not only interfere with the transmission signal but in rare cases also damage sensitive vehicle electronics.
