The Toyota 17-pin OBD1 to 16-pin OBD2 adapter cable is specifically designed to connect older Toyota models to modern diagnostic equipment. This adapter cable features a rectangular 17-pin connector on the vehicle side, which plugs directly into the specific diagnostic port used in Toyota passenger cars produced before the standardization of OBD2.

The adapter provides a physical conversion of the pin layout, correctly linking the communication lines of the older vehicle electronics to the universal J1962 connector. This enables stable signal transmission between the vehicle's ECU and a compatible OBD2 scanner, provided it can handle the older Toyota-specific protocols in software.

ADVANTAGES

Enables connection to the rectangular 17-pin diagnostic port.
Converts the connection to a standard 16-pin OBD2 female interface.
Equipped with sturdy connectors for durable workshop use.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Acts as a pin converter and does not contain an electronic protocol converter.
The connected diagnostic tester must support software for older Toyota OBD1 systems.
Not suitable for vehicles with the round 22-pin connector.

Applications and functionalities

This adapter cable is intended to provide physical access to the onboard computer of older vehicles. Actual functionality depends on the diagnostic equipment used.

  • Reading fault codes: Accessing the ECU to retrieve stored error codes.
  • Pin conversion: Physical conversion from 17-pin Toyota-specific to 16-pin ISO standard.
  • Diagnostic connection: Establishing communication between vehicle and scanner.

Compatible vehicles and applications

This adapter is suitable for Toyota models produced during the transition period from OBD1 to OBD2, typically between 1990 and 2001, and equipped with the rectangular 17-pin diagnostic port.
