The Adapter Cable converts the vehicle-specific 20-pin diagnostic connector of Tesla into a standardized 16-pin OBD2 (J1962F) female connector. This adapter is designed to establish a physical connection between the proprietary interface of the vehicle and universal OBD2 diagnostic equipment. The cable is made with a flexible sheath and robust connectors for stable data transmission.
This Adapter enables compatible scan tools to access the various electronic control units (ECUs) of the vehicle. This allows functions such as reading diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), viewing live data from systems like the battery management system (BMS) and the drive unit, and performing service and maintenance procedures.
Application and functionality:
The cable serves as a bridge between the specific Tesla diagnostic port and a standard OBD2 reader, enabling various diagnostic operations.
- Diagnostic connection: Connects a standard 16-pin OBD2 diagnostic tool to the 20-pin service port of compatible Tesla vehicles.
- Access to vehicle data: Enables communication with modules such as the battery controller, drivetrain, and other onboard computers to read status information and fault codes.
- Service and maintenance: Used to perform advanced diagnostic tests and reset service messages that are not accessible via the standard user interface.
Compatible vehicles and applications:
This Adapter Cable is specifically designed for use with older Tesla models equipped with the 20-pin diagnostic connector. The connection is usually located behind the Media Control Unit (MCU).
Tesla:
- Model S: (2012 - September 2015)
- Model X: (Early production until September 2015)
Important: Before purchasing the product, always check your vehicle’s connector. This may vary by model and year of manufacture.
