The OBDSTAR T006 features a 15-pin DB15 connector on the device side and splits into a 12-pin and 22-pin GSM connector on the vehicle side. These two connectors connect directly to the wiring of the gear shift module in the center console of Land Rover and Jaguar vehicles.

The shift module in these vehicles has two separate plugs. With the split cable design, both are controlled simultaneously, allowing the OBDSTAR test platform to read and control all relevant signals from the shifter. The connection operates independently of the vehicle network, enabling targeted module testing without CAN network interference.

This cable is a test connection for this specific module only: it does not provide OBD2 diagnostics and cannot be used for general vehicle reading. The shift housing must be removed to access the connectors. The models listed below are confirmed with model years; which tests are available depends on your test platform.

KEY BENEFITS

Both connectors at once — the 12-pin and 22-pin GSM connectors plug directly into the shift module without additional adapters.
Lift and shift testing in one connection — both the lift function and shift behavior of the module are tested through the same cable.
Independent of the CAN network — the direct connection enables targeted module testing without vehicle network interference.
Two brands with model years — specific model year ranges are confirmed for eleven Jaguar and Land Rover models.

IMPORTANT NOTES

OBDSTAR test platform only — this cable is not compatible with diagnostic tools from other manufacturers.
No additional vehicle coverage — available test procedures for the shift module depend on your test platform's software.
No OBD2 diagnostics — the cable is not suitable for general vehicle reading via the standard diagnostic port.
Removal required — the connectors are only accessible after removing the shift housing from the center console.

Applications and Functions

When used with equipment from the OBDSTAR test platform series, this cable supports the following work on the gear shift module.

Control units you can access

  • Gear shift module: directly connected via the 12-pin and 22-pin GSM connectors in the center console.
  • No other vehicle systems: the connection operates independently of the vehicle network, so only the shift module is addressed.

What you can do

  • Perform lift test: electrically control the lift function of the gear lever and read the module's response.
  • Perform switch test: check the switching signals for correct response when changing gear positions.
  • Connect module directly: establish communication with the test platform outside the standard vehicle diagnostic port.
  • Assess module before replacement: determine whether the fault lies with the gear lever module before proceeding with replacement.
  • Note: verify in advance that the specific model year and variant actually have the 12-pin and 22-pin GSM connector.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The determining factor is the 12-pin and 22-pin GSM connector on the transmission lever module, not the model. The vehicles listed below are confirmed compatible. For production runs that are still ongoing, a later variant may use a different module; therefore, check the connectors themselves.

💡
Good to know: The transmission control module is located in the center console; the 12-pin and 22-pin GSM connectors are accessible after removing the shifter housing, and the exact module location varies by model year. Check the model, model year, and connector type in the service manual before ordering.
