The OBDSTAR EM001 is the adapter cable for the 5-pin OBD connector on NIU mopeds. It converts that connector to a standard 16-pin OBD2 connector (J1962). The 5-pin side connects to the moped's diagnostic port; the 16-pin side connects to your diagnostic device or to an intermediate RS232/RS485 converter.
NIU uses a proprietary 5-pin diagnostic connector on its electric two-wheelers instead of the automotive OBD2 standard. The cable connects to both the battery diagnostic port and the vehicle diagnostic connector, making data from the battery management system (BMS) available alongside regular diagnostic information.
The cable unlocks the moped's diagnostic socket; what you can read from it depends on your device's software. The manufacturer lists the NIU U-series and M-series as supported models, without specifying production years.
KEY BENEFITS
IMPORTANT NOTES
Applications and capabilities
Through this connection, you can access the diagnostic socket and battery side of the moped.
Control units you can reach
- Battery management system (BMS): accessible via direct connection to the battery diagnostic port, for battery status and cell data.
- Vehicle diagnostic connector: the standard diagnostic socket on your electric moped for fault code reading and system diagnostics.
What you can do
- Read BMS data: check the battery pack status and individual cell information.
- Read fault codes: retrieve stored diagnostic trouble codes from your electric moped for system diagnostics.
- Access special functions: perform information queries and execute specific functions through your vehicle's diagnostic socket.
- Connect additional adapters: use the cable as a standard OBD connection to connect devices like an RS232/RS485 converter.
- Important note: available data and functions vary depending on the model and your OBDSTAR device.
Compatible vehicles and applications
What matters is the 5-pin NIU connector, not the model. The source lists the U-series and M-series as supported ranges without specifying model years; check the connector on your electric moped itself.
NIU:
- U-series: models with 5-pin OBD connector.
- M-series: models with 5-pin OBD connector.
