The OBDSTAR M088 converts the Tohatsu outboard engine's proprietary 6-pin diagnostic connector to a standard 16-pin OBD2 (J1962)-port. The engine side connects to the 6-pin diagnostic connector specific to Tohatsu motors.
The pinout scheme of that connector is proprietary and does not align with the standardised OBD2 layout. The cable routes the pins to the correct positions, allowing connected OBDSTAR equipment to process the engine's diagnostic protocols. Cable housing and connectors are compact, which helps in the confined space of a motorboat engine compartment. The cable unlocks the outboard engine's control system. Whether operation remains limited to reading fault codes or whether engine parameters can also be adjusted depends on the OBDSTAR equipment and its supported functions — the cable does not determine this.
