The Jaltest JDC501A is the adapter between the 3-pin connector of Steyr engines and the standard 16-pin OBD2 interface of the Jaltest Link. This diagnostic connector is engine-specific and located on or near the engine block, not in a fixed position on the machine. Steyr also uses a 6-pin version, for which the JDC502A is intended.
The cable opens the diagnostic line to the two Steyr engine control units covered by Jaltest: EDC CAN and UIS 1.0 (unit injector system). Both provide access to fault codes, live data and ECU information, while component actuation, parameter adjustment and calibration are not supported; Steyr coverage remains read-only. Steyr Motors manufactures compact diesel engines supplied as standalone powerplants, which is why Jaltest covers them in both stationary engine and marine applications. The cable falls under Jaltest OHW (Off-Highway machines) and Jaltest Marine.

Applications and Functions
Using this connection, you access the Steyr engine control unit with Jaltest software. Jaltest groups these control modules under the Steyr Engines coverage group.
Control modules you can access
- EDC CAN, Electronic Diesel Control: The CAN version of the Steyr engine control system.
- UIS 1.0, Unit Injector System: The control module for Steyr engines with pump-injector units.
What you can do
- Read and clear fault codes: Access the fault memory of the control module with fault descriptions, and clear it after repair.
- View live data: Monitor current sensor values on the control module, with the ability to set alarm thresholds for out-of-range readings.
- Not included: Actuating components, adjusting parameters, calibration and maintenance reset are not available for Steyr control modules.
Compatible vehicles and applications
The engine type determines compatibility, not the machine it's installed in. Steyr engines are mounted as standalone powerplants; Jaltest therefore lists coverage under the engine itself.

- Stationary applications: Machines and equipment with the Steyr engine installed
- Inboard engines: Steyr is also covered by Jaltest for inboard marine engines
