The Jaltest OBD401 is the adapter connecting the 38-pin OBD1 diagnostic connector of the Iveco Daily to the 16-pin OBD2 port on your Jaltest diagnostic cable. On the vehicle side, there is no flat connector but a round black housing with a locking ring, containing a dense field of gold-plated round pins; on the interface side, the OBD2 housing marked OBD401. The assembly measures 12 cm and has no cable attached.

This coupling routes the communication lines from the Daily through to the Jaltest Link, enabling direct communication with the on-board control unit. The diagnostic equipment thereby gains access to the braking system ABS 5.3, the system that Jaltest lists for the Turbodaily generation; comprehensive engine diagnostics are not covered on this generation. For diesel vans, the 16-pin connector became mandatory from 1 January 2004 onwards, so on a Daily from after that date you will not need this adapter. It falls under Jaltest CV.

IMPORTANT NOTES

✕Coverage on the Turbodaily generation is limited: Jaltest provides the braking system ABS 5.3 only, with no comprehensive engine diagnostics.
✕For the round 38-pin connector only; from the OBD2 generations onwards, Daily diagnostics run through the standard 16-pin connector.
✕Systems such as EDC 16 C39, the body control module BC, ABS8/ASR8/ESP8, airbag control and the ECAS air suspension are found on later Daily generations and cannot be accessed with this adapter.
✕Two Iveco adapters side by side: this one is for the Daily, the OBD202 for the truck series prior to 1998 with the 3-pin connector.

Applications and functionality

Via this connection, you access with the Jaltest software the control unit present on this Daily generation . Coverage is more limited than on later OBD2 models. The following unit and functions are included in Jaltest's CV coverage.

  • ABS 5.3, anti-lock braking system: The braking system that Jaltest specifies for the Turbodaily generation.

  • Read and clear fault codes: Access the fault memory of the control unit, with descriptions of detected faults.
  • View live data: Current values from sensors connected to the control unit, displayed as figures and graphs.
  • Actuate components: Activate components directly to determine whether the fault lies with the component itself or in the wiring.
  • Configure parameters: Write configurations and settings to the control unit.
  • Perform resets: Clear counters and notifications after a repair.
  • Monitor live data: Track measurement values in real time during a test drive or diagnostic run.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The connector type determines compatibility, not the model. This adapter fits any Iveco Daily equipped with the round 38-pin diagnostic connector from before the OBD2 era. Jaltest covers the following generations; the end year is capped at the introduction of the 16-pin connector for diesel vans on 1 January 2004. On the commercial vehicles and the older TurboDaily features a 3-pin connector, for which the OBD202 is intended.

Useful to know: The round 38-pin connector is located in the cab, behind a plastic panel in the dashboard. For diesel commercial vehicles the 16-pin connector only became mandatory from 1 January 2004 onwards, so around that transition you will encounter both connector types. On an Iveco commercial vehicle from before 1998, you will find the 3-pin connector from the OBD202. Therefore, check which connector your vehicle has before ordering.
