Applications and functions

The Gateway from FCA sits between your device and the Control units in. Below is what an authorisation enables and where you run into limitations without it.

What the authorisation gives you

• Writing instead of reading: Clearing fault codes, running active tests and controlling units become possible on secured systems.
• Code and configure: Programming replacement modules and writing adjustments is only possible once the gateway is open.
• Completing service procedures: Resets that end with a write command to a secured module no longer get stuck halfway through.
• Every FCA vehicle in the workshop: The authorisation applies to your device, not to a single vehicle, so you don't need to arrange anything per car.

What happens without authorisation

• Read-only access: Reading fault codes and live data continues to work, but that's where it stops.
• Commands are rejected: Clearing, coding and active tests are blocked by the gateway, even though you can see the module clearly.
• Incomplete repairs: A job that ends with an adaptation or reset remains open and must be finished elsewhere.
• Older FCA vehicles: Models from before the gateway was introduced continue to work fully without authorisation.

Compatible vehicles

The gateway is fitted to FCA models from approximately model year 2018, to Alfa Romeo from 2017 onwards and to some models only from 2019 or 2020. The determining factor is the Build date on the type plate in the driver's door, not the model year on the registration plate.

• Jeep: Wrangler JL and Grand Cherokee from 2018, Renegade from 2018, Compass and Cherokee from 2019
• Fiat: 500X, 500L and Doblò from the 2018 facelift, Tipo from the 2019 facelift, Ducato from the Euro 6d series of 2019
• Alfa Romeo: Giulia and Stelvio from 2017, Tonale from its introduction in 2022
• Maserati: Ghibli, Levante and Quattroporte from 2017, for which the manufacturer specifies a dedicated 12+8 cable
• Chrysler, Dodge and Ram: These models are only available here as imports, but fall under the same authorisation

Compatible devices

The authorisation works on Topdon devices that SGW unlock support it. The device must be within its Update period fall and connection with Internet included.

How does it work in practice?

From order to gateway access, it takes Four steps. The Serial number is the only thing you need to locate yourself.

1. Provide serial number: When placing your order, provide the serial number of your device; we use this to ensure the correct authorisation is prepared.
2. Code received: You will receive the authorisation code by email, typically within one working day.
3. Enter the code: Enter the code on the device; the authorisation will then be activated online.
4. Getting to work: Connect to an FCA vehicle and the secured systems are accessible like any other system.
