The Topdon FCA (SGW) Authorization License is a digital authorization that gives technicians access for a period of 1 year to vehicles from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) that are protected with a Security Gateway (SGW). This license is specifically designed to unlock the security module, enabling far more than basic diagnostics. Without this authorization, communication with many critical ECUs is limited to passive data reading. The license unlocks active testing, calibration and coding on protected systems.
The FCA authorization activation process runs completely automatically after purchase and pairing with the serial number of your Topdon diagnostic device. When the technician connects a compatible FCA vehicle, the Topdon software will automatically establish a connection with FCA's OEM servers to complete authentication. This requires an active internet connection at the time of diagnosis.

How It Works in Practice
- Purchase and Pairing: After purchase, the license is digitally linked to your Topdon device's serial number.
- Update Software: Ensure your Topdon diagnostic software is updated to the latest version.
- Connect Vehicle: Connect the scanner to an SGW-protected FCA vehicle.
- Automatic Authentication: The software detects the SGW and automatically initiates online authentication to unlock the systems.

Your Topdon scanner's serial number is required for activation. Please provide this in the notes field during checkout. You can find it at:
- Software Settings: In the 'Info' or 'Settings' menu of your Topdon device.
- Physical Sticker: On the back of the VCI dongle or diagnostic tablet.
- Original Packaging: On a label on the box.
