The Jaltest WST (50004011) is a stand-alone tester for brake pad wear sensors. It carries the OE reference K154433N50 from Knorr-Bremse. The device measures 144 x 66 x 40 mm, weighs 193 grams and has an LCD display, a rotary switch and a single socket for the supplied cables.
You disconnect the plug at the brake caliper and connect the matching cable there. The rotary switch selects the sensor type, after which the display shows the measured voltage in volts. You compare that value with the reference table, which gives the wear percentage of the pad. This is done without dismantling, so you can use the brake pad until it is fully worn.

With this tester you read out a wear sensor while it remains fitted to the vehicle. You do not need a Jaltest Link or a computer. The layout of the display, LEDs and rotary switch is shown on the instruction card in the lid of the case.

Compatible sensors and applications
The sensor type is decisive, not the vehicle. The rotary switch lets you choose between continuous sensors and 2-wire sensors. In the wrong position you get a value that does not belong to the sensor and that the reference table cannot translate.
Positions on the rotary switch:
- Continuous sensors from DAF, Iveco, Mercedes-Benz, Scania and others: A dedicated position.
- Continuous sensors from MAN and Meritor: A second position.
- 2-wire sensors: A third position, for sensors that only give a signal at the end of the pad thickness.
- Off: The extreme position switches the device off.
Brands in the cable set:
- Connection cables: Renault, Volvo, Scania, Mercedes-Benz, Knorr-Bremse, DAF, EvoBus, Iveco, Hyundai, MAN and Wabco.
Continuous or 2-wire:
- Continuous sensor: Changes with the wear over the entire range and gives an intermediate reading at any moment.
- 2-wire sensor: Only gives a signal when the pad reaches the wear limit, and nothing before that.
Wear sensor or speed sensor
Both sensors are located at the wheel, but they measure different things. If you know which of the two you have, you also know which tester belongs with it.
- Wear sensor: Fitted in the brake pad and reports how much material remains. This is the sensor the WST is designed for.
- Speed sensor: Sits opposite a toothed ring on the wheel hub and passes the rotational speed to the braking system. The Jaltest (50004002) | SST (Speed Sensor Tester) is intended for this.
- Difference in signal: A wear sensor produces a value that varies with the thickness of the pad; a speed sensor produces an alternating signal that rotates with the wheel.
