The Autel Mazda 17-pin OBD1 - 16-pin OBD2 Adapter is designed to establish a physical connection between the vehicle-specific diagnostic port and modern reading equipment. This Adapter converts the older 17-pin OBD1 connector, characteristic of Mazda models before OBD2 standardization, to a universal 16-pin OBD2 interface. This allows current diagnostic equipment to communicate with the outdated electronic control units (ECUs) of this specific range of passenger cars.

Within the diagnostic network, the hardware pin-out facilitates stable transmission of proprietary communication protocols to the diagnostic interface. The robust pin configuration is precisely matched to the specific power and data lines of the manufacturer, minimizing interference during fault code reading. This physical transition module does not process signals itself but solely ensures the correct and safe routing of the data bus lines to the serial port of the reading device.

ADVANTAGES

Ensures correct pin-out of the specific Mazda data lines to standard OBD2.
Enables direct hardware integration without the need for external power cables.
Manufactured with a compact housing to protect the internal solder joints.

KEY POINTS

Works only as a passive bridge and does not provide active protocol conversion.
Requires diagnostic equipment that software-wise supports the older OBD1 protocols of the manufacturer.
Not compatible with models already equipped with the universal 16-pin standard port.

Applications and functionalities

This adapter allows the diagnostic technician to perform the following tasks on compatible older vehicles, depending on the software support of the connected tester:

  • Read and clear fault codes: Access stored trouble codes in primary control modules such as engine management and transmission.
  • Analyze data stream: Real-time display of sensor values through the vehicle's specific OBD1 data lines.
  • Control components: Performing active tests on actuators via the serial communication connection.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The adapter is designed for Mazda vehicles from the pre-OBD2 era that are factory-equipped with the specific 17-pin diagnostic connector.
