The 2+2-pin to 16-pin OBD2 Adapter Cable is designed for older vehicles from the VAG group. This Adapter connects the model-specific 2x2 connector to a standard 16-pin OBD2 diagnostic system. The Adapter Cable enables data communication between a modern diagnostic tester and the vehicle’s older OBD1 system. This is required for reading fault codes and performing basic diagnostics on the engine management.

The interface works by integrating the vehicle’s separate power and data lines into a standard OBD2 pinout. The black connector provides the necessary power and ground, while the white connector facilitates the K-line and L-line for serial communication. This allows the diagnostic tester to correctly access the electronic control units (ECUs). The Adapter Cable contains no active components and passes the data signal analog and 1-to-1 to the connected test equipment.

Good to know: The 2x2 diagnostic connector on these models is often hidden under a cover plate in the dashboard, directly behind the ashtray or around the gear lever in the center console.
