The OBDSTAR M086 is the adapter cable for the 6-pin diagnostic port on Volvo Penta gasoline engines. The cable connects that factory port to a standard 16-pin OBD2 (J1962) connector and attaches directly to the engine's diagnostic port on the motor side.
Volvo Penta does not implement the diagnostic port on these engines in OBD2 format, which means a standard OBD2 cable won't fit. Depending on the engine system, communication runs over CAN-bus or K-line; the cable provides the physical and electrical connection for that data traffic.
The cable establishes the connection with the engine control system. Which fault codes and other diagnostic functions are available afterward depends on your OBDSTAR device's software support for the specific engine system.
KEY BENEFITS
IMPORTANT NOTES
Applications and Features
Access your Volvo Penta engine's control system through the 6-pin port.
Control units you can reach
- Engine control system: the engine control module behind the 6-pin diagnostic port on your Volvo Penta engine.
- Additional modules: which other units are accessible depends on the engine control system in use.
What you can do
- Read fault codes: retrieve stored and active diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the engine control system.
- Clear fault codes: remove fault codes from the engine control system after diagnosis and repair.
- View live data: monitor real-time engine parameters such as RPM, temperatures, and sensor readings.
- Run system diagnostics: check the engine control system for irregularities in control and sensor operation, at idle or under load.
- Please note: available functions depend on the connected OBDSTAR device and engine system.
Compatible vehicles and applications
The 6-pin OBD diagnostic port is what matters, not the engine type. Only Volvo Penta engines with this port are supported; confirmed engine types and model years are listed in the OBDSTAR software database.
- Volvo Penta: gasoline engines with 6-pin OBD diagnostic port — consult the OBDSTAR software database for confirmed engine types and model years.
