The OBDSTAR M081 is the adapter cable for the 8-pin MAN diagnostic connector on marine engines. It connects that factory port to the 16-pin OBD2 (J1962) input on your OBDSTAR device and attaches to the diagnostic port of the engine control system on the motor side.

MAN uses its own 8-pin port on these engines instead of a standard connector. The fixed wiring links the correct pins of the MAN connector to the corresponding OBD2 pin positions, allowing data communication via the available protocols — such as K-line — without additional setup.

The cable provides access to the engine diagnostic interface of your vessel; it does nothing beyond that. Which functions you can perform depends on your OBDSTAR device's capabilities and software support for MAN marine applications.

KEY BENEFITS

✔Proprietary port via standard interface — the 8-pin MAN connector becomes accessible through a standard OBD2 port, with no extra hardware needed.
✔Fixed pin wiring — the connection between both connectors is direct and requires no prior configuration.
✔For marine use — this specific connector is necessary on MAN marine engines; standard cables won't fit.
✔K-line communication — the cable carries the protocols that MAN engine management uses.

IMPORTANT NOTES

✕MAN 8-pin port only — other engine brands or vehicles are not supported, even with a similar connector type.
✕No model list by year — OBDSTAR provides no engine types or model years for this cable; the connector present on your engine is what matters.
✕OBDSTAR equipment only — diagnostic tools from other manufacturers are not compatible.
✕No added coverage by itself — available functions depend on your device and software support for MAN marine systems.

Applications and Features

Through the 8-pin port, you access the engine management system of the MAN marine engine.

Control units you can reach

  • Engine Management System: the engine control system of the MAN marine engine accessed through the 8-pin diagnostic connector.
  • Other Modules: whether additional units on board are accessible varies depending on the installation and device.

What You Can Do

  • Read Fault Codes: retrieve stored and active diagnostic trouble codes from the engine management system via the 8-pin connector.
  • Clear Fault Codes: delete stored trouble codes in the engine system after diagnosis and repair.
  • Request Live Data: read current sensor values and engine parameters in real-time from the engine control system.
  • Establish Connection: the MAN port is converted to the OBD2 input your device uses.
  • Important: what is available depends on the MAN marine software support in your OBDSTAR device.

Compatible Vehicles and Applications

The determining factor is the 8-pin MAN diagnostic connector, not the engine type. Compatibility is based on available product information; specific engine types with model years are not specified.

  • MAN: marine engine motors with 8-pin OBD connector
💡
Good to Know: The 8-pin MAN diagnostic connector is typically located near the engine control system in the engine compartment of the vessel; the exact location varies by boat type and engine installation. Verify that the engine connector has eight pins before ordering.
