The OBDSTAR MS50 Basic update licence extends your entitlement to software updates for the MS50 Basic for one year. The MS50 Basic is the entry-level version of the MS50 and covers twenty brands in full, whereas the STD version covers thirty-five. Any additional brands within those twenty arrive through these updates.

A licence renewal keeps the brand list and service functions of the MOTO Diag and Programmer apps current, from oil service reset and throttle body learning through to ABS bleeding and odometer correction. We bind the licence to the serial number of your device. When it expires, the MS50 Basic continues to operate on the last installed version and all previously supported vehicles remain accessible.

IMPORTANT NOTES

✕The licence is tied to one serial number and cannot be transferred to a second MS50 Basic.

✕An extension does not upgrade the Basic to STD; the fifteen brands that are only fully covered by the STD version, including KTM, Husqvarna and CFMoto, are not included.

✕Brands that appear in the list for odometer correction only, including BMW, Ducati, Harley-Davidson and Triumph, remain restricted even with an active licence.

✕An extension provides software only, not adapters, so you will need to purchase the connection cables for PGO, Hartford, Vespa and Aprilia separately.

Features and functionality

An active licence keeps three components of the MS50 Basic operational. These are the brand coverage, the service functions and the online support. Below is what an extension delivers and what stops working without one.

What an extension provides

Expanded brand coverage: Models and model years within the twenty supported brands are added, covering engine management, ABS, immobiliser, instrument cluster, EPS, BMS and TPMS.
Enhanced service functions: Idle speed learning, air-fuel ratio reset, engine adaptation, tyre pressure system reset and EOL mode keep pace with newer vehicles.
Updated programming functions: Coding, ECU settings and instrument cluster coding evolve with the software.

What happens without an extension

New software: Wireless updates no longer deliver new versions; the device remains on the version currently installed.
Online services: Remote assistance and other OBDSTAR online services may be discontinued or become limited.
Existing diagnostics: Fault codes, live data, actuator tests and odometer functions continue to work on the brands already in your version.

Good to know: The serial number is located on the sticker on the rear of the MS50 Basic and in the settings menu under device information. The licence runs from the initial registration of the device, so check that date rather than your purchase receipt.

How does it work in practice?

From order to updated device takes four steps. The serial number is the only thing you need to find yourself.

Provide serial number: Supply the serial number of your MS50 Basic in the order comments field.
Activation: We link the licence to that serial number, typically within one working day.
Connect device: Switch on the MS50 Basic and connect it to wifi; keep it on the charger whilst downloading.
Install updates: Open the update menu and install the available versions.
