The OBDSTAR M088 converts the Tohatsu outboard engine's proprietary 6-pin diagnostic connector to a standard 16-pin OBD2 (J1962)-port. The engine side connects to the 6-pin diagnostic connector specific to Tohatsu motors.
The pinout layout of that connector is proprietary and does not align with the standardized OBD2 format. The cable routes the pins to the correct positions, allowing connected OBDSTAR diagnostic equipment to process the engine's diagnostic protocols. Cable housing and connectors are compact, which helps in the tight space of a boat engine compartment.
The cable unlocks the engine control system of the outboard motor. Whether you're limited to reading data or can also adjust engine parameters depends on your OBDSTAR equipment and its supported functions — the cable itself does not determine this.
