The OBDSTAR M027 converts the 3-pin diagnostic connector found on Kymco and Kawasaki motorcycles to the standard 16-pin OBD2 (J1962) port. The 3-pin connector housing is factory-specific and fits mechanically onto the diagnostic socket of the relevant models.

Both manufacturers used this 3-pin connector on models without a direct OBD2 port. The signal pins are internally wired to the corresponding contacts on the 16-pin side, so K-line or CAN communication remains uninterrupted. No vehicle modifications are required.

Through this adapter cable, you gain access to the engine control units behind that port. What you can do with them depends on the software of your OBDSTAR diagnostic device.

KEY BENEFITS

One cable for two brands — Kymco and Kawasaki models with the 3-pin port use the same cable.
Signal integrity preserved — the internal wiring maintains K-line or CAN communication without alteration.
No wiring modifications needed — the cable connects directly to the factory connector.
Standard OBD2 on the device side — the 16-pin end plugs straight into your diagnostic tool's port.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Check the model year for Kawasaki — the listed Kawasaki models with this connector were produced until the early 2010s; newer versions may have a different port.
3-pin connector only — models with different connector types are not compatible with this cable.
OBDSTAR devices only — use with diagnostic equipment from other manufacturers is not supported.
Does not expand vehicle coverage — available systems and functions depend on your diagnostic tool's software.

Applications and Features

Access the control units of your motorcycle or scooter through the 3-pin diagnostic port.

Control units you can reach

  • Electronic control units: the units connected to the 3-pin port, including engine management.
  • Other systems: which modules are accessible varies by model and depends on your device's coverage.

What you can do

  • Read fault codes: retrieve stored and active fault codes (DTCs) from the control units.
  • Clear fault codes: remove codes from the control unit, after which the system performs self-diagnosis again.
  • Request live data: monitor real-time sensor and actuator values while idling or riding.
  • System identification: retrieve vehicle and system information, such as control unit type and software version.
  • Note: available functions vary by model and OBDSTAR device.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The 3-pin diagnostic port is what matters, not the model or year of manufacture. The models listed below are equipped with a 3-pin port that is mechanically and electrically compatible with this cable's connector.

  • Z750 / Z750R: (2007–2012)
  • Z1000 / Z1000SX: (2007–2013)

💡
Good to know: On these models, the 3-pin diagnostic port is typically located under the seat or behind a panel near the steering head; consult your service manual for the exact location. Check the connector on your bike before ordering, especially for Kawasaki models from overlapping production years.
