The OBDSTAR M068 is the adapter cable for the 4-pin diagnostic port on Kawasaki jet skis. One end features the manufacturer's proprietary 4-pin connector, while the other end connects to the 16-pin OBD2 (J1962) connector on your OBDSTAR diagnostic device. On the vehicle side, the cable plugs into the jet ski's diagnostic port, which provides access to the engine control system.

Kawasaki has never used the standard automotive OBD2 connector on its jet ski line; instead, it employs a proprietary 4-pin connector. The pin configuration is manufacturer-specific and differs from the international OBD2 standard, which is why a standard OBD2 cable won't work here — this adapter cable is essential for proper signal transmission.

The cable establishes a connection to the jet ski's engine control system only. Which fault codes, sensor readings, and other functions you can actually access depends on your OBDSTAR device's software and the supported protocols for that particular model — the cable itself doesn't add any additional coverage.

KEY BENEFITS

Direct connection to the 4-pin jet ski port — the cable plugs in without requiring any modifications or alterations to your watercraft.
Standard OBD2 connector — the 16-pin end connects directly to your OBDSTAR device's diagnostic input; no intermediate adapter needed.
Covers an extensive model range — from the 2004 STX-15F through the latest Ultra 310 and SX-R models, Kawasaki maintained the same 4-pin connection.
For a segment without standardized ports — in jet ski diagnostics, standard OBD2 cables cannot be used due to the different connector design.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Not for Kawasaki motorcycles — this cable is designed exclusively for jet skis with the 4-pin port; motorcycle connections from the brand require different cables.
Year and model don't determine compatibility — the presence of the 4-pin connector is what matters; verify it on your watercraft before purchasing.
Works only with OBDSTAR equipment — the cable is designed for OBDSTAR devices and programmers and is not compatible with diagnostic systems from other manufacturers.
No additional vehicle coverage — available functions depend on your device and the supported protocols for each model; the cable only establishes the connection.

Applications and Capabilities

Through this connection, you gain access to the jet ski's engine electronics.

Control units you can reach

  • Engine control system: the control unit connected to the jet ski's 4-pin diagnostic port.
  • Other control modules: whether additional control units are accessible alongside the engine management system varies by model and device.

What you can do

  • Read diagnostic trouble codes: retrieve fault codes (DTC) from the jet ski's engine management system via the converted 4-pin connection.
  • Clear diagnostic trouble codes: remove stored codes after diagnosis is complete.
  • Request live data: monitor sensor readings and system parameters in real time for diagnostic purposes.
  • Signal conversion: the manufacturer-specific 4-pin signal is converted to the 16-pin OBD2 format, enabling OBDSTAR communication.
  • Important note: what's available on each jet ski depends on the model and the OBDSTAR device being used.

Compatible vehicles and applications

The 4-pin OBD connector is what matters, not the model name. The Kawasaki jet skis listed below are equipped with that port. Before use, verify that your specific model and year actually has a 4-pin OBD connector.

Kawasaki:

  • STX-15F: (2004–2015)
  • Ultra 260X / 260LX: (2009–2010)
  • Ultra 300X / 300LX: (2011–2013)
  • Ultra 310X / 310LX / 310R: (2014–present)
  • SX-R 1500: (2017–present)
💡
Good to know: On Kawasaki jet skis, the 4-pin diagnostic port is typically located under a cover in the front compartment of the hull; consult your model's service manual for the exact location. Confirm your jet ski has the 4-pin connector before ordering.
