The OBDSTAR M043 is a BRP 6-pin to 16-pin OBD2 adapter cable specially developed for connecting BRP motorcycles to OBDSTAR readers and programmers. The cable features a 6-pin BRP-specific connector on one end that matches the vehicle-side diagnostic port of BRP models, and a standard 16-pin OBD2 (J1962) connector on the other end that connects to the diagnostic device.

The adapter cable converts the brand-specific BRP 6-pin signal to the standardized OBD2 format, allowing the diagnostic device to communicate via the familiar OBD2 interface with the vehicle's electronic control units. Signal transmission is passive through wiring, without active electronics in the cable itself. The BRP 6-pin port is present on many BRP models as the vehicle's own diagnostic input and is physically incompatible with a standard OBD2 connector — the M043 bridges this difference and enables diagnostics via OBDSTAR equipment.

Applications and functionalities

The OBDSTAR M043 Adapter Cable enables the following diagnostic applications on BRP motorcycles via connected OBDSTAR equipment:

  • Read fault codes: The reading device retrieves stored and current DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) from the vehicle’s electronic control units via the BRP 6-pin port.
  • Clear fault codes: After diagnosis and repair, stored fault codes in the memory of the ECU can be erased via the OBDSTAR device.
  • Live data display: Real-time sensor values and driving data are read from the vehicle’s electronic control units for analysis during or after use.
  • System diagnosis: Through the Adapter Cable, the OBDSTAR device can communicate with the vehicle electronics for a complete check of the available systems within the BRP platform.

The following BRP motorcycles are equipped with a 6-pin BRP diagnostic port and are supported via the OBDSTAR M043 Adapter Cable in combination with compatible OBDSTAR equipment:

Good to know: The BRP 6-pin diagnostic port is usually located under a cover near the handlebars or close to the instrument panel, depending on the model and year of manufacture.
