The Jaltest JDC501A connects the manufacturer-specific 3-pin diagnostic connector on Steyr engines to the 16-pin OBD2 port where the Jaltest Link diagnostic cable fits. On the engine side, there is a round metal bayonet connector with a knurled ring, featuring a blue ring around the black contact carrier and three round pins. The other end is a black plastic housing with two rows of eight contacts and a white label printed with JDC501A. Jaltest supplies the cable as a diagnostic cable for Steyr engines, 3 pin, with a length of 29–31 cm.
Alongside this version, the JDC502A is available for the 6-pin Steyr connector, and the difference extends beyond the number of pins: the round connector on that cable is noticeably larger in diameter and features a red ring around the contact carrier, whereas this cable has a blue ring. The 16-pin OBD2 side, the length and compatibility with Link version V8.1 and V9 are identical on both. This cable provides access to both Steyr engine control units within the coverage, EDC CAN and UIS 1.0; the cable falls under Jaltest OHW (Off-Highway machines) and Jaltest Marine.

Applications and functionality
Through this connection, you access the engine control unit of the Steyr engine with 3-pin connector using Jaltest software. Jaltest groups these control modules under the coverage category Steyr Engines, which includes EDC CAN and UIS 1.0. Data retrieved over the line remains limited to read-only functions: fault codes, live data and ECU information.

- EDC CAN: The CAN variant of the Steyr engine control unit.
- UIS 1.0: The control unit for Steyr engines with pump-injector units.
What you can do
- Read and clear fault codes: Access the fault memory of the control unit with fault descriptions, and clear it after repair.
- View live data: Monitor current sensor values from the control unit, with the ability to set alarm thresholds for out-of-range readings.
- Not covered: Actuator control, parameter setting, calibration and maintenance reset are not listed for Steyr control units.
Compatible vehicles and applications
The engine type determines compatibility, not the machine it is installed in. Steyr engines are fitted as standalone power units, so Jaltest coverage is based on the engine itself. The same engine therefore appears in both stationary applications and marine engines; check on site whether your engine block has a 3-pin or 6-pin connector.
