The Jaltest JDC532A is officially designated as the CAN 4-pin diagnostic cable for Scania engines and measures 28–30 cm. On the engine side, it features a round black bayonet connector with a ribbed coupling ring and four contact sockets arranged in a diamond pattern around a coded centre; on the interface side, the black 16-pin OBD2-connector in the familiar trapezoidal form. This cable contains no module and no separate power lead — it is a straight-through connection from connector to connector.

The distinction from the sister cable JDC531A lies in the bus to which you connect, not in the pin count: this cable serves the CAN-line of the newer Scania engine generation, whilst the JDC531A serves the serial RS232-line of the older generation. This difference extends into the equipment itself, as this cable is specified for Jaltest Link V8.1 and V9 whilst the JDC531A is for V8.1 only. Because the connector belongs to the engine rather than the machine, you will encounter it on Scania engines in a wide variety of applications and on inboard engines.

IMPORTANT NOTES

For the round 4-pin CAN connector only; older Scania engines with the flat 9-pin RS232-connection require the JDC531A.
The EDC MS5 and DEC2 (V7.0)-control units on engines with in-line injection pumps are accessible via the RS232 connection only, not through this cable.
Coverage is limited to fault codes, measured values and ECU data; service intervals, component control and parameters are not included.
The cable is relatively short at 28–30 cm; the Jaltest Link therefore sits close to the diagnostic connector in the engine bay.

Applications and Functions

Through this connection, the Jaltest software accesses the engine management of the Scania engine via the CAN bus. This covers the control units for pump-injector units. The control units for inline fuel injection pump are located on the RS232 line and are not accessible with this cable.

Control units you can access

  • EMS PDE, engine management system with pump-injector units: The Scania engine management with pump-injector units, including fault codes, measured values and ECU data.
  • EDC MS6.2, engine management system with pump-injector units: The corresponding control unit operating on the same injection principle, with the same function list.

What you can do

  • Read and clear fault codes: Access the fault memory of the control unit with fault descriptions, and clear it after repair.
  • View measured values: The current sensor readings from the control unit.
  • Set alarm thresholds: Receive an alert when measured values fall outside the normal range.

Service intervals, component control and parameters are not included in the coverage table for these Scania engines.


Compatible vehicles and applications

The connector type is what matters, not the machine manufacturer: This cable fits any Scania engine with the round 4-pin CAN diagnostic connector. Jaltest covers the following engine series from the DC09 through to the DC16. Check which connector is fitted to your engine on site.

Good to know: The 4-pin CAN connector is part of the engine and located in the engine bay. You can identify it by its round shape with coupling ring; older Scania engines have a flat 9-pin D-sub instead. Check which connector your engine has before ordering.
