The Jaltest OBD215 is the adapter between the 12-pin OBD1 diagnostic connector and the 16-pin OBD2-port of your Jaltest diagnostic cable. On the vehicle side sits a rectangular black plug with twelve pins arranged in two rows of six; the marking OBD215 is moulded into the housing. At 5.8 cm in length, it is a compact cordless block, which connects between your existing cable and the vehicle connector.
That 12-pin connector is the American OBD1 interface, known in the workshop as the ALDL-connector that General Motors used before the 16-pin standard arrived. In the United States, OBD-II became mandatory from model year 1996; in Europe, the standardised connector with EOBD came into force on 1 January 2001 for petrol and 1 January 2004 for diesel. Within the Jaltest programme, this is a commercial and light commercial vehicle application: the software includes modules for trucks, buses, vans, agricultural, earthmoving, materials handling and marine vehicles, with no separate passenger car module. The adapter is approved for Jaltest Link V8.1 and V9 and falls under Jaltest CV.
KEY BENEFITS
IMPORTANT NOTES
Applications and functionality
Using this adapter, you can connect with the Jaltest software connection with the engine control units behind the 12-pin ALDL connector. What's available depends on the vehicle and the model year. The followingfeatures are standard operations on systems of this generation.
Control units you can access
- The control units behind the 12-pin ALDL connector: Which ones depends on the vehicle and model year; Jaltest shows for each model which systems are covered, along with the control unit identification where this data is available.
What you can do
- Read and clear fault codes: Access the fault memory of the connected control unit and clear it after repair.
- View live data: The current values from sensors connected to the control unit.
- What is exactly possible depends on the vehicle: For pre-OBD2 systems, the function set is not standardised.
Compatible vehicles and applications
The connector type determines compatibility, not the model. This adapter is for the 12-pin ALDL connector with two rows of six pins, located in the cabin under the dashboard. Which connector your vehicle has depends on the model year and market: In the United States, OBD-II arrived with model year 1996, in Europe EOBD came in 2001 and 2004. After that, every new vehicle received the 16-pin connector and this adapter became obsolete.
Application:
- General Motors with the 12-pin ALDL connector: The connector GM used before the 16-pin standard was introduced
- North American market: New models received the 16-pin connector from model year 1996 onwards
- European market: Petrol until 1 January 2001, diesel until 1 January 2004
- Within the Jaltest programme:Commercial and light commercial vehicles; Jaltest does not offer a separate passenger car module
