The Jaltest JDC614A accommodates the smallest of the three Mercury diagnostic connectors: it links the 2-pin A9 connection to the 16-pin OBD2 port of your Jaltest diagnostic cable. On the engine side sits an oval black connector housing with just two round openings positioned side by side, separated by a raised rib; this is a completely different connector from the wider 4-pin and 10-pin MEFI versions. The connection is located in the engine bay, on or beside the engine. The cable measures 28 to 30 cm.
Through this adapter, diagnostic equipment gains access to the control units that Jaltest supplies under Mercury: the engine controllers PCM-555 and ECM-555, the ECM-70 G3, the ECM DFI from Optimax engines and the MEFI generations of MerCruiser blocks, plus the control electronics DTS G3 and TVM G3. The difference lies in the functions: the PCM and ECM-555 also include parameters, calibration and reset; the MEFI and ECM DFI do not. The cable falls under Jaltest Marine.
KEY BENEFITS
IMPORTANT NOTES
Applications and Functions
Through this connection, Jaltest software accesses the engine control unit of the Mercury engine and the onboard management electronics. Which control modules you encounter depends on the generation: The 555 control units are found on newer engines, the MEFI-units on the MerCruiser petrol engines beforehand. The units listed below are from the Mercury coverage of Jaltest Marine.
Control units you can access
- PCM-555 and PCM-555 G3, engine control:The control unit of the Verado and Optimax engines, among others, with fault codes, measured values, component control, control unit data, parameters, calibration, reset and live data.
- ECM-555, ECM-555 G3 and ECM-70 G3, engine control:The control units of the Fourstroke engines, with the same feature set.
- ECM DFI, engine management:The direct fuel injection control system of Optimax engines, including fault codes, measured values, component control, control unit data and live data.
- MEFI 1-2 and MEFI 3-4, engine control:The fuel injection systems of MerCruiser inboard engines.
- DTS G3 and TVM G3, control electronics:The electronic throttle control and gear selection, along with the course control system.
What you can do
- Read fault codes:Read the engine control unit fault memory with a description of the detected fault, and clear it after repair.
- View measurement values and monitor live:Real-time sensor readings monitored whilst the engine is running.
- Control modules:Control engine management actuators directly to determine whether a fault lies with the component itself.
- Parameters, calibration and reset:On the PCM and ECM-555 control units; the calibration is also available in the DTS G3.
Compatible vehicles and applications
The connector type is what matters, not the model. This version is compatible with the 2-pin A9 connector. Jaltest Marine covers Mercury engines on the outboard- and theonboard side; which connector is fitted to your engine, you can see by thenumber of connections and to the form of the house.
Mercury:
- Four-stroke series:Outboard engines from 15 to 300 hp, including Jet Fourstroke variants
- Verado series: Outboard engines from 135 to 600 hp
- Optimax series: Outboard engines from 75 to 250 hp
- Pro XS, Pro Max and SeaPro: Outboard engines from 15 to 500 hp
- MerCruiser inboard: Including the 4.3, 5.0, 5.7, 6.2, 7.4, 8.1 and 8.2 MPI and MAG variants, the 496 MAG, Scorpion and Vazer engines
